Grain sticks help please? :(

Here's the recipe I did 280ml of millet and 160-170ml of water and a knief tip of gypsum per quart jar with a polyfill'd hole in top of jar. Just like Anno's grain recipe just doubled for quarts.  Although after pc'ing for 1 hour at 15psi the grains stick?
I've read this is too much water to make the grains stick and if so is there anyway I can avoid this or what the hell is going on :frown:  Also I covered the tops with tinfoil to keep water out from messin up the ratio please someone help :frown:

Did you shake the jars after you took them out of the pressure cooker? Shaking after PCing is one of the best steps you can take to prevent grains from clumping together.

yup as soon as pressure got to 0psi and was safe to remove lid they were taken out and shaken pretty vigourosly. should i try soaking and draining grains? but amazingly with all jars they stuck and they varied in water content from 150ml-170ml for quart jar.

Also is there any hope for this stuck millet to be retried or have to throw it out?

there is always hope . give a try . maybe soaking it ?
what kind of millet, where the hulls still on ?
my grandma always said 'the skin is the best part', :wink: i found that applys to just about everything :grin:
i like wbs myself  :tongue:

well i may just have to resort to the WBS tek and do the soak. that way i can rule out the saturation if it fucked me up or not. grrr back to da drawin board.

Don't discount the shaking recommendations... as soon as you can get them out of the PC, while still too hot to handle without a hotpad, shake the jars up. It really does work wonders.

look you should use straight rye grain and gypsum.
but try shakin and two to three knife tips of....

Next time, try this out:

Grain preparation: Rinse the grain thoroughly under flowing water and simmer it until the grains are soaked and begin to explode.

With rye the simmer time is around 45 minutes, with millet or millet based birdseed around 30 minutes, but it depends on what brand you buy.

Strain the cooked grain for about 15- 20 mins. Then fill the jars screw on the cap with a filter or polyfill, and put in a pressure cooker for an hour on 15 psi.

Immediately after the pressure has settled using protective oven mitts or a towel, take the still burning hot jars from the cooker and shake them well to mix the wet and drier kernels of grain together.

Let the jars cool overnight or at least 12 hrs. Proceed with innoculating via multispore or agar wedge. shake the jars up every now and again when it seems necessary

You do not want your grain to explode :frown: Just measure out one jar of grain for every three jars you want to fill. Soak your grain for 4-8 hours. Drain well. Load into jars and PC. If it looks wet and sticky when your done PCing. Toss it out and start over.
