Good virus scanners?

I'm using Norton Antivirus right now, but it hardly ever finds any infected files, even though my computer is giving random errors, displaying websites in a fucked up way etc... It seems that my computer keeps getting infected with the same virus over and over
I'm basically looking for a good free virus scanner.

You may have a virus lurking on your machine rather continually catching a new one...
Ensure that you have the latest virus definition files and scanner from live update. Turn on heuristic scanning and set it to high. (I think they call it bloodhound as well.) Be sure you are configured to scan all files. (Not the default option.) Be sure that you scan your entire machine booting from a known clean CD with the latest virus definitions.

I use the free copy of PC-Cillin that came with my mobo. It's an excellent AV program. Good on resources and doesn't slow my computer down much at all.

I also use NAV and faced almost the same problems.
Now i use the ZoneAlarmPro software (internet firewall) and that was the cure for me. Hope it helps.

My favorites are www.Ravantivirus.com <~~~ very good and relyable & www.Macafee.com <~~~ still one of the best something you should be aware of is that many new virri stop your AV from working so it won't pick up your problem there is a solution to this though ... the rav antivirus site has an online scan you may want to try the advantage of it over the SARC one is that is can clean the files for you where as the SARC online scan only detects

IMO, if it doesn't protect your email and protect you from trojans, then its not worth having.

you got that right .. and these days you want it to preferably be able to protect your chat clients if you use them as well and also one that scans webpage's for harmfull scripts before loading the page
you should look at rav it has all those products seperated and also packaged into one product .. it also has a *nix version
