S.A.D. - Randomly super accurate description and acronym for Social Anxiety Disorder.
I've never really thought much about it because I dont have many symptoms of it. I enjoy being center of attention; I dont have problems in school/work other then the fact that im lazy when it comes to Homework. But one problem i have that it defines is that i anticipate situations before happening and always wondering and worrying about what people are thinking or saying about me - But this only happens when im alone. If its my friend and i, a family member... then it all disappears except for when im at a club or something. I do have a bit of shyness.
I've never really been a fan of medication. I feel its handed out like candy and people thing there should be a pill for everything. But after a solid year of depression and freaking out and having done nothing with myself; its time to seek help.
What drugs are there out there to help such problems? What ones effective if any?
Does doing drugs (mainly pot; recently a little coke, i do mushrooms, little ex) help? Hurt?
Whats the next step? I've been to 5 counselors, drug and family both willingly and unwillingly, and they never have said i've had any problems other then "Dont do drugs"... lol.

There's a strong sentiment against antidepressants here (ironic for a site about hallucinogenic drugs), but you might consider a low-dose SSRI like Lexapro in combination with Buspar to get your anxiety under control. Note that withdrawal from SSRIs can be unpleasant, so make sure you know what you're getting into. Buspar is relatively benign though, and can be beneficial by itself.
It's generally accepted that the best long-term treatment for anxiety disorders (including social anxiety) is cognitive behavioral therapy, so I would definitely consider that if you're looking for a cure and not just a way to make it through the day.
Smoking pot definitely can lead to increased anxiety, so I would do your best to cut down on that as well. A bowl here and there probably won't hurt, but chronic smokers often cite anxiety as a primary reason for quitting.

This was kind of the main thing i was looking for. But also, something i didnt want lol.
I love pot... but it is something I feared was worsening my problem as well as becoming somewhat of a crutch for me. I do think however I can quit; and then help myself to reestablish my mental self to a "normal" state and then pick up smoking again. I've always been able to deal with my problem until this last year. I had some things go bad with a girl friend that deff didnt help me. Tore me up and had to recover from that and slowly fell into this trap where i dont do social things; yet tell myself i will. I get invited to parties; say i'll go; and dont. When I used to go to all unless i seen it getting raided as i dont like cops lol.
I was reading about how some felt Xanex helped them. Whats the thoughts on that as its something i can get easily and wouldnt mind taking to help for a little bit if its worth anything. But like census says; i dont want to be dependent on drugs. Been there done that - meth, dxm, coke - not fun and IMO, Rx drugs are no different.
Thanks...

My experience with Xanax is not particularly great. It does help with anxiety some, but when I take enough to have an effect it causes drowsiness and really bad amnesia. You feel normal at the time but wake up the next day with only bits and pieces of memory, it's pretty disconcerting. Also it has a very short half-life so it's more likely to lead to addiction and can perpetuate anxiety if you miss a dose. Klonopin is a better choice in my opinion, especially if you plan to use it regularly, but unless you really have debilitating anxiety it's probably best to try other options first. Note how the Wikipedia article says Buspar has an efficacy comparable to Valium, without all the risks. I've found this claim to be reasonably accurate. That said, you won't become a raging addict if you take .5 - 1mg of Xanax as needed, it's people who pop multiple bars daily over long periods that get the really bad withdrawals. If you have easy access it can't hurt to try a dose before a social event, just beware the serious potential for addiction and consider it a short-term solution. If you need a place to get Buspar or Lexapro, I'm going to break my own no-sources rule out of empathy for your situation and suggest http://www.unitedpharmacies.com.

imo if you smoke pot with some friends that can take away some of the anxiety... ive had times where i felt anxiety prob cause of my pot smoking but ive come to realize that even if youre around judgmental people it just says more about them than you.. smoke pot- be creative, fuck what other people think and dont overthink social rules....
pot makes my mind race so i dont smoke it in sober social situations, but when im doing things i enjoy its not a problem if i get a good sleep after.
try smoking once a week or even just when you feel the need to, and dont think of yourself as a pot smoker- just do it when it seems appropriate
