Reishi experiments.
    #12288075 - 03/28/10 02:26 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

The first was just cardboard and coffee,  it grew very well and is still growing.

3-28.

The next are just starting.(spawned 3-16)

#1 has no bran only cardboard, saw dust, coffee, coir.

#1 was birthed 3-26 exactly 10 days after spawning,  it was the fastest but will the yeild be as good?

#2 has cardboard , coffee, coir, wood chips(poplar), saw dust, verm and bran on top.

3-26 the top is colonized but the rest is about 50%

#3 is  cardboard,  wood chips, saw dust, bran, coir, coffee and verm.

3-26 #3 is about 90% another few day to birth.

3-31 #3 has beed opened,  #1 is growing strong and #2 is still lagging behind.
#1
#3
#2

4-4 Things are moving slow compaired to what I am used to with Reishi.  I may have birthed them early and my FC isn't set up properly since I moved. I still have not birthed the one with bran only on top, I am going to have to cut the bottom off and isolate it.  Here is a picture of the two that ar birthed NO bran on the left and with bran on the right.

4-10
Things are moving now,  the uncolonized bag went out side just to be safe.
The bag without bran is forming a ton of antlers and the bran seems to be forming conks.

4-14
No bran

Bran

And some others.

There is a lot of emphasis in the books about agricultural waste.
Not enough is being done about consumer waste.
I tip my hat to you for disposing of cardboard in a way that creates reishi!

Cardboard can be bad about developing wet bac - maybe that's why your other half of block had trouble colonizing? I'm going to try similar, but pre-soak my cardboard in water/bleach (1/8th cup bleach to 2 gallons water).
Good idea!

The cardboard was soaked for 24 hour in bleach water,  then rinsed and soaked with the coffee grounds.
#2 is looking better and is around 80-85% today,  it may have been a little wetter than the others.

After moving I have a trailer full of boxes so I am hoping these work well.

LOL.. Oysters will grow on anything,  that is my next project.  Blue oysters on cardboard,  the grains are ready but I just need to find the time to spawn them.

yeah i went and bought a huge ass bail of straw just to use with the cultures you sent...as i said i know nothing about oysters tho so im not sure how i should go ab out fruiting them..from what i've seen i can just layer straw, and spawn in a bag  after pasteurizing and all, then cut few small holes in the bag for GE..but im stumped after fully colonized what to do with them lol..anyway sorry for filling your thread with questons not related

Its alright,  just make the straw logs as you said and when 100% colonized poke/cut holes and put the log in a GH or shot gun FC.  Easy peazzey

Do those blocks start to feel light? I've never seen anyone fruit those totally open...so I wonder if that many pins is sucking on the water level.

Looks :awesome: though. Always like seeing Reishi grow. Interesting between the comparison if bran vs no bran. I want to experiment with some other sub additives outside of bran to see if an equivalent that doesn't need sterilizing could be added. I just did some oysters on sawdust w/ manure replacing bran 2:1. We'll see how it pans out.
