I'm just intersted in peoples thoughts on affilliate marketing. Who here has done it? did it work for you? How do you feel about it?

I know for a fact, that facebook advertising doesn't work. It's expensive and drives nearly no one to your site. Also, you'll have to look at impressions per 1000 versus paid clicks. Generally, SEO and organic advertising is going to do you better. Even regular advertising like, leaving business cards with the website would be better, as only interested people will pick up the cards and then check out the site. Even better it costs nearly nothing and will be more effective, etc.
I guess however, it all depends on what you're trying to get out there.

It's definitely a rewarding career considering you get what you put in. Meaning you can make four figures a day if you try hard enough, have enough motivation and passion for making money. But you can also fail miserably and waste a lot of time and money, and make nothing. So before you think of trying, you should read a lot, just like you'd do before you start growing shrooms.

i'm sorry but you really don't know what you're talking about. business cards better than facebook advertising?? you're doing something wrong if facebook traffic isn't converting for you, i've had 200% ROI from facebook before.
AM is one of those things where you have to intuitively have a feel for it. it's not easy money by any means, expect to fail a lot before you make any significant money. but as monster said if you do it right, you can make 4-5 figures a day. if you're able to code then you already have a good leg up on many people.
it's a great opportunity since the internet is truly global, you can sell almost anything to anyone in the world as long as you can target and convert them.

Well, there is way to broad of a spectrum out there to really say that you can make 4-5 figures a day from affeliate marketing, and most of the time its pretty sketchy to be involved
In order to make 4 figures or more a day, you would have to work with lots of other people to run your operation. One thing you definately will need is a paypal account (to either get paid with or to pay your workers)
One form of affeliate marketing I was invovled with was GPT (get paid to try) sites (you know those survey sites where like if you do one survey you get 50 cents) Look at this: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/swatcash.com and zoom out to the MAX time limit.
This was one of the best GPT sites on the net back in 07, but then this entire industry collapsed and was shut down (as u can see by the huge and quickdrop in its alexa rank)
I used this back in high school using sites like Swatcash.com Cashcrate.com
The owners of these sites kept like a 25% stake of the profits (like, if a survey paid out like 50 cents, in reality in paid out 62.5 cents, but the site withheld 25% of the payout as to cover their costs of maintaining the site) , so if they had to payout like $180,000 to all the users of their site 1 month, they would also get to keep $45000 for themselves in 1 month. These companies usually paid by check.
The reason it got shut down was because everyone was using fake info... There were Surveys, and there were trials which companies offered
You would need credit cards to try the "trials" some company offered (like they would charge you like $5 to try each trial), and the payout for trying each trial was really big
some companies, Like Vonage (the internet phone company) gave you $70 if you just tried their service for a year (all they did was charge your credit card $5 before they paid you out $70)
Vonage posted this offer on like 20 different GPT sites, so you could get paid $70 over and over.
So pretty much the advertising companies (like vonage) lost tons of money from this because everyone was using prepaid credit cards for these trials ( and not really ordering the service) , so the companies could not keep charing (like you can buy a prepaid $25 Amex gift card, use it for like 5 different trials and only paying the trial fee which was in most cases like $5, get paid like $75)
So eventually the advertisers pulled out
Personally, I think the entire affiliate market scene is sketchy as fuck... Most people make money via clickbank for affiliate marketing by setting up sites to sell a person's product (those are all those scam looking sites) So like, if I had some e-book telling you how to make 10,000 dollars in 2 hours, an affiliate marketer would set up some site designed to sell my e-book, and usually get like a 50% stake (usually on a blog service cuz its free) usually they make it look all scammy with fake pictures and promises with random numbers and facts... like they would type TURN 25 cents into $9684.32 OVERNIGHT in red bold caps
Anyways, if you are a begginer you shouldn't kid yourself with ideas of making like 4 figures. The money you make is chump change and this is why
Most ebooks go for like 10-20 bucks, so if you make a sale you would get like 5-10 bucks for each ebook... (so you would need to set up blogs which get good traffic and spam lots of people with your products before making any sales)
