Cake resurrection??
    #1228393 - 01/18/03 08:59 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Will a cake that has been stored in the fridge for almost one month still be able to produce if crumbled and cased or is it dead? What are your thoughts and experiences? Thanks.

LOL...unfortunately I wasn't cold shocking, I had to be on the road for a while so the cakes had to go into suspended animation.

If the mycelium is dead, then theres no way you can resurrect it.

I've stored cakes in the fridge for several weeks and they fruited just fine afterwards. I was fruiting as cakes at the time but I can't see that casing would make any difference.

I am sure you can still fruit them but I bet they will take a wee bit longer.

I did the same thing. Took about a week to fruit.

Well so far SixCee has been the only one to get it right. You can store your cakes in the fridge, as long as they are enclosed, ie: still in their jars or in a plastic bag. They will go dormant or some equivalent. They will probably take a bit longer to fruit. I stored pints of myc. in my fridge for roughly 3 months. Everything was fine, and should be for you as well.
