Relax, PC's dont explode all of the sudden... Just make sure nothing is covering the steamoutlet, but i highly doubt this is the case since you r just boiling water... wait a lil longer and dont worry

Be sure you read the instructions that come with it. Once the water inside is at a full boil it will still take five to ten minutes to build up a good head of steam. Once the water vapor being pushed out of the nozzle turns invisible you should put the weight on and lower the temp. The weight should only rock once or twice a minute when you have the temp set correctly, though it will take a bit of time once you lower the temp for the system to catch up.

Once or twice per minute? I thought it was supposed to have s steady rock going?
Once or twice a minute, I'd imagine the stove would be turned on pretty low.

Well for it to blow up, it needs to be at a pretty high PSI, and if no steam was escaping, and it was only on the burner for five minutes, it won't reach that psi. Just put it on the heat, with the steam valve open, once a steady stream of steam (sounds funny, eh?) is escaping, put the weight on. You'll be fine, if the weight starts rocking like crazy, then turn down the heat. If your PC is newer, it should have enough safety valve to prevent it from blowing, unless you are a complete retard and you leave the PC on the burner and fall asleep.
The main thing is never leave a PC unattended. Prevention is the key.
Don't worry about being nervous, I know I was the first time I used my PC.

Mine is a newer presto. It has two valves. Once the steam starts to rise that valve pops up then all of a sudden you can sit and watch the PSI gauge slowly rise. I tried mine out for you and with 2 inches of water it took a little over 15 mintues on hig heat for the pressure to start rising. I leave mine on high until it reaches about 14 then I turn it on about medium heat. Just stand there and keep adjusting the knob around med. until the needle stays on the 15. Dont sweat it man!
