3 inches of casing is way too much for nearly any reason. it would take a long time to colonize, inviting contamination. thinner is better, a half inch is more like it.------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.

If your growing outside, I'd suggest using the outdoor growing tek if you have never done it before. It's in the grow Find section. Then experiment later. But to answer your questions. Your casing layer sounds too thick. Sometimes I will case a substrate with just enough casing layer as to barely cover the top. As for slicing the cake's, I have had more success crumbling them up. Make sure you dont leave it in direct sunlight, find a shady spot. With it being covered, the sun can cook your substrate if your not careful. I normally just cover mine with some leaves. Ofcourse I'm always experimenting too. But this seems to produce good fruits. If you are going to use the plastic trays, I'd suggest punching some holes in the bottom of the trays. In case it rains you dont want your substrate to flood. I just dig a hole in the ground on a little higher elevation than the surrounding area to promote drain-off, throw some H2O2 in the hole and place a layer of perlite in the hole, put my substrate in the hole cover with a thin layer of vermiculite and then some leaves. Then I leave it alone, unless it has been very dry, then I spray it with a couple fine mists every now and again. But if you have never grown outside before, try using Ryche's outdoor growing tek.------------------ "IT's two in the morning.....Do you know where your flashlite and paper bag are?"

In my opinion, the B strain works really good outside. It seems to adapt very well to many different climates. Like cool, to hot, it still fruits fine.------------------ "IT's two in the morning.....Do you know where your flashlite and paper bag are?"
