Shroom tea/active chemical breakdown

I have a question concerning tea and the temperature breaking down the psilocybin/psiloclin (sp). I did a quick search on the forum concerning this and didn't come up with anything. Maybe I didn't use the correct terms. I read somewhere that the "breakdown point" of psilocybin/psiloclin is around 98 degrees. Wouldn't the temperature of the water be waaaaaaay to hot for the purpose of the tea? I mean obviously it works, but I'm just wondering if it reduces potency. Thank you in advance for any info and light-shedding you can provide.

It definately reduces potency.

But it's still a great way to take mushrooms, imho. A much more mellow trip usually.

water BOILS at 100, right?

Since you dont' put the shrooms into actually BOILING water, you have to turn off the burner, which stops the boiling. Since the water is no longer boiling, one would assume that the water has cooled already to at LEAST 99 degrees, almost instantly after turning off the burner.

So extrapolating from there, very shortly, the water would cool down to 98, and 97... 96, and so on..

Unless you're throwing the shrooms in there IMMEDIATELY after turning off the stove/burner/whatever, I don't believe the psilocybin will be broken down - the bigger concern is making sure you leave it in there long enough so as to extract ALL the magic into the water :wink:

I think water boils at 212 degrees, unless you're talking clecius. I think you are. I think its my fault, I meant to say farenheit; 98 degrees farenheit. I f water boils at 212 farenheit, it would take a long time to drop to a non-lethal temperature. Sorry, it was my fault, farenheit though.

No, water boils at 212 degrees. You can always use a thermometer. (Either an oral or candy one)

If you just forget about the loss in potency and make shroom tea anyway, I think you will find it to be a very effective method of ingestion. Comeup is usually real fast, ie. tripping hard in 20 mins which can be a little scary but also quite exhilerating.

Make a nice hot tea without the shrooms and let it cool until it is only warm. Toss the tea in a blender with your fruit and let her spin for a minute or two. Pour the result in a glass and quickly drink. If your belly is empty the onset is very fast, so be ready. No loss in potency when done this way, but no easier on the system either.

It seems that most of the potency loss from tea has less to do with heat and more to do with not extracting all the magic from the fruit...

i have a cake that isnt pinning...it's been over 2 weeks now, and i've dunked it & still nothing. i heard that making tea with cakes is a way to get some magic...anyone wanna hook me up with the technique??

I have never tried, but from everything I have read, from reliable sources, the cakes have very little magic in them. Try cold shocking your cakes by putting them in the fridge over night... also make sure they have indirect light during the day. Sometimes it takes a while for cakes to go from nothing to something... when they do finally go they tend to go quickly.

yea, i'm just getting a little anxious, that's all...a friend just gave me a cake that he had leftover from his casing...it's been getting light for the 2 weeks & all...been sprayed about 2xdaily & getting plenty of air...i used MycoBags last time & it took them about a week&1/2 -2 to pin...guess i just want the mush...you're right, i've read everywhere that little magic is in the actual cake, but "cake-tea" is just an idea i've heard...guess i'll wait a little longer    :crazy:
