*THE OFFICIAL New Zealand Mushroom Season THREAD 2010*

Found my first of the season, just a perfect spherical Weraroa novea-zelandiae today!
In a patch where the previous season I found around 20 this size in June, I thought a nice walk through the bush would be enjoyable!
Only spent an hour looking, but it's a good sign of things yet to come!! Will be munching it down tonight
Enjoy NZ active myco-philes! Please note the receipt from Thursday to validate

Does that single mushroom have noticeable effects?

Congrats on the first official finds for the season, bonus points for it being Weraroa.
I hope to be able to add to this thread at some stage this year.

Did you eat a quarter pounder, or a double quarter pounder? I am not a big fan of pickles either. Sometimes they are divine though....
Anyway great find, I am happy to see it!
Keep up the good work! Good luck and happy hunting!

It was a normal quarter pounder, and yes, I find pickles highly overrated.
Curecat - yes it was a light level 1 trip for 3-4hours but I was drinking and taking mephedrone and marijuana too so it died off after the 4hour mark. Definitely stronger than the weraroa I had later in the 2009 season! Wouldve only been 5gms fresh too

So this is what you guys eat over there? I thought the main NZ shrooms were P. Subaeruginosa and P. Aucklandi (although some say they are the same thing)

P.aucklandii and P.subaeruginosa are not the same, they are entirely different. P.subaeruginosa are the more common mushroom found and ingested although Weraroa is becoming increasingly popular among the public as more information is made available on their whereabouts.

I have 7 spots around the Wellington region where I have found actives before and I'm still yet to find a P. subaeruginosa, all I eve find are these Weraroa.

Sorry i was getting mixed up - for some reason i lumped P. aucklandii with P. australiana, P. eucalypta and P. tasmania - silly mistake, probably should get some sleep!

Psilocybe aucklandii belongs in Section Zapotecorum and is much more closely related to P. zapotecorum than it is to the P. subaeruginosa group, it is found in a completely different habitat and does not fruit from wood chips.

Found these today in central Auckland. (picture taken via webcam... sorry)

I was so sure when i picked them that they were subs, but now I'm having doubts. Found in bark, 2 were growing out of an old stump, close to the other patch. No apparent bruising and it's been about 2 hours, I'm currently doing a spore print.
Anyone able to confirm? understandable if it's too difficult due to pics, I ougta get some better ones up tonight.

Those are not in Psilocybe. Check the spore print color. I was going to guess Inocybe or Cortinarius, but since they were growing from wood maybe something more like Pholiota.
