Any V8 truck filter should handle at least 650cfm most closer to 900cfm. There are many square filters available also.

>Any V8 truck filter should handle at least 650cfm most closer to 900cfm. The question is not if the filter handles it, but if your blower handles it. The resistance of a too good(fine)/too small prefilter could be such that you?d need a much, much more powerful blower than you would with a simpler prefilter. Think of it as of having 2 HEPAs, one in front and one at the back....

>f the engineering data of the blower is say 400 cfm at .85 sp and i'm passing that >air through a filter that can accomodate 900 cfm at .85, the air delivery through >that filter will be 400 cfm? No, becuase the s.p.(static pressure) will be smaller, since the filter has the s.p. of .85 at 900cfm, this means less s.p. at 400cfm, which means that the air output through that filter will be somewhere between 400 and 900cfm. I can?t tell it exactly without knowing the characteristic curves of the blower and the filter.

Laminar or not, they work, I have an older model sterile work hood that is built exactly on this design. However it is critical to have a shield, restricting air flow towards the bottom, so that the velocity is fast where you are down and working. That is the only draw back of the desgin, you do not have an entirely open work space like a laminar hood.

I did not say it doesn?t work, I know it does, but the flow is likely not laminar, thus the term "laminar flow hood" is wrong. I was nitpicking a bit, please notice the smiley with my comment, don?t take everything I say too seriously, life is too short for it...

Yeah anno, good self advice. I too was merely making a moderate comment about the functionality.
