THis is a stump I found on a hike. I wanted to draw it so bad that I brought it back home with me and drew it. I used a bit of artistic license and made it look like a living creature.

These were drawn in one night, in this order. And they need a little explanation. (BTW, the handwriting is just notes for my own amusement. Not intended to have any relationship to the drawings.)
What I've been trying to do with my drawing, for a very long time, is to work unconscious symbolism into the art. The problem is, if I'm tying to use unconscious symbolism ... I can't be conscious of what I'm doing while I draw it. So I've found that the only way I can do this (and it still only works a small fraction of the time), is to smoke a good amount of the right kind of weed, then start drawing abstract shapes. If I'm lucky, the abstract shapes will turn themselves into symbolic content. If I'm not, ... let's just say a lot of paper gets crumpled up and tossed.
These drawings are from the luckiest night I've had so far. I started in the upper left with pure abstraction, only adding what lines made the shape more appealing to me. Turns out, the most appealing shape to me is (wait for it) ... pussy.

The fish and swirl are just to make a more active composition (I added them consciously), but the other two elements were added unconsciously (I only figured out what they were after they were done). As you can see, there is a man with his head pulled off his shoulders, as his body is drawn towards the pussy. That symbolism probably doesn't need any explanation.
The central symbol (again, drawn unconsciously) is a representation of consciousness. It is an ornate, superfluous intruder into space, observing what is there, even though what is there would persist with or without this intrusion. (As proven by these drawings themselves. Meaning and form coming together without the intervention of consciousness.)
That musing about consciousness led me to this next piece. This is a symbol I did not come up with on the spot, but which I had previously unconsciously produced and then consciously analyzed. I don't know how to sum this one up in a sentence, but it's about the relationship between consciousness, light, and time. As the light contorts on itself in the universe, and as time hones this contortion into something more and more complex, more and more pure ... it folds into an opening, from which consciousness shines through. (The notation on the left is standard math jargon. Time 0 is nothing to see, time 1 is a change from time 0, then time 2, time 3 ... and so on indefinitely. The indefinitely distant endstate is labeled "n.")

The text is just a phrase I came up with on the spot, and liked. The inverted cross is a foreshadowing of the next piece, which is a study on the symbolism of the cross.

This one begins with Christ as a spectre of pain and guilt, which is how I see him used in modern Christianity. The cross is a reminder of that, and thus (to me), a despicable symbol, oppressing our minds unconsciously. I decided to contrast these unconscious associations with those which arose from inverting the symbol. And so instead of a haunting, tortured figure (suggested by the cross), I see its inversion as a natural, peaceful figure, here represented by the flower. In contrast to the dominating and fearful nature of the cross (which I think is intrinsic in its overhead placement of the horizontal bar), I interpreted the low-placed bar of its inversion as being grounding and calm: thus, the foot, firmly set on the ground. Both symbols are reminiscent of blades, but one is held in the underhand fashion of the assassin, stabbing in the back, and the other is held upright, nobly. Interpreted as phallic symbols, the cross is flaccid and weak, whereas its inversion is virile. Interpreted as a body's relation to its support, the cross hangs you from above, its inversion supports from below.
Thanks for reading. Hope some of you found this as interesting as I do.

Dude I really, really like those. Especially the second one. The lines just have such a coherent, evocative character. It really feels like they're saying something specific, even if I don't know what it is.

Too true, though the worst things (IMO) I've drawn have been on trips. Psychedelic drugs have strengthened my ability to let my subconscious supersede, however. I usually just screw around sober.
Thanks for your comments.

I like it 'cuz I "see" it. The colors are great and I think it's a quality take on impressionism.

Thanks man. I can only hope that people see it. That's crucial. If they don't, it looks like I won't be able to paint as much anymore.

I can't tell if that was a joke, but I just mean the titles really match the paintings in spite of how abstract they seem.

I always fuck up coloring so putting this up for posterity's sake in case I destroy this. I just feel like something this overwrought won't come to life unless it's in color...
