thank ya kindly, sir.
yeah, too bad my spotted Eagle draft fell from it's perch and landed on it where it lay, otherwise i would have finished the bottom, and it wouldn't have had that nasty hole in it's center to lay the nail on.
i am thinking i might try and torch the unfinished bottom of it, with coal fire, you know - to complete the look. it is the Wasteland afterall. hmmm, i'll probably get around it soon enough.

These are terrific! Do you mind if I post one up on twitter claiming it to be an anonymous artist's?

Art Nouveau has taken over my mind tonight. Had a life changing acid trip today and I remembered I have an assignment due on Wednesday on some Design history stuff.
Here's what I came up with for my first go at it:

Made in the drawing tent at the Boom festival in Portugal a couple of weeks ago. Thank God for there being a drawing tent, I really needed a grounding activity at the time

ended up unexpectedly having some time to kill in a hospital waiting room today. Made a bunch of mistakes and forget to erase one in particular that looks way more like a mustache than I like, but whatever.

If anything the eraser marks and mistakes give the drawing a sort of rough texture that really meshes well with the style of the drawing.
Fucking sick!

Thanks d00d, I appreciate that.
I am slowly trying to get myself to work more slowly. It's so hard for me to put something down for a day after a couple hours of work and then pick it up later on to avoid getting tired and sloppy. I just get sucked in and want to see the idea in full, out on paper so badly that it keeps me from completing things that way I originally set out to so I've gotta break that habit.

Why not use the habit for your benefit? Maybe you can try to get the idea out in full when inspiration strikes then come back and redo or finesse the project.
The way I've been working lately is sketching out the whole thang first, taking notes on things I feel like fine-tuning then putting the work into Illustrator and fine tuning it slowly and surely.

That's exactly what I intend to do with this one.
On the otherhand, I have a folder stuffed to the gills with plenty of similar ideas and half-baked projects that just never got done - another bad habit of mine is not really being big on seeing things through from start to finish beyond that first hurried sketch(or a revised, hurried sketch), I will start a million things at once but damn, the thought of choosing one and really seeing it through and taking a lot of time is a daunting task to me. I think it's because I'm one of those people that gets so freaked out by failure that I almost get stuck in practice mode and revise/re-do/try a new idea over and over until I feel confident enough to invest the time and effort and materials into a piece without being worried about it sucking.
It's almost like perfectionism's stupider more neurotic sibling. But you're totally right. How long do you usually spend on one drawing or piece out of curiousity?

i can say; for me, i've got my first painting i've ever been really happy with, still being worked on, for months and months; i still have yet to finish it... but it's just got more foreground details and then water details... and some bolder outlining on a tree... then it's done. i made it out of my first try ever painting since pre-school... and it was horrible... but then it made it into something completely different and the only painting save one that i've saved.
my second one that i've dumped the most work into got a hole due to something falling on it, my third was gonna tie a connection between it and the first one, due to environmental distinction, it was going to provide the flood (in my Flood picture) to a mountain that someone lives on, whom lives under a huge tree. and a fourth, where i tried to make a sun, and it was just practice... being particular about my choices here, i decided to recreate my "allegory" that was the third and failed painting, by using pieces of these broken and/or failed paintings, by cutting them out, and gluing them on some paper, to use it all in some way.
lets just say, i seem to work in the opposite way then you've described; i don't want to waste anything, really, but the fact is though, i DO in fact lose the will to work on certain things past a point, because it loses its... perfection, essentially.
so i can definitely see why one would go through so much work, and maybe not use all of it. but it's all important, i feel, to have to go through. not everything will be perfect, which in turn makes the artist want to strive even harder.

As long as it takes. The longest time I've invested in a drawing (in one sitting) was around four hours trying to recreate a Dali piece using water colors:

Here's another painting that took me 3 hours to complete (one on the left is my girls, the one on the right is the one I painted)

For school projects, I've worked on projects for two months or more.
It sounds cliche but lately I've been creating just for the experience of creating. It tends to clean my psyche out and revamp me.
I tend to doodle a lot when bored and like you have a couple of sketchbooks full of characters and scenes that I haven't completed. The good thing about that (in my point of view) is that I can come back later with a fresh eye/palette and finish the idea.
The thing about failing is you can't fail without trying...well you can if you don't try but you know what I mean.
