THis is a stump I found on a hike. I wanted to draw it so bad that I brought it back home with me and drew it. I used a bit of artistic license and made it look like a living creature.

Its a conglomeration of many trees I've seen over my life. Before I sat down and drew it I walked around and made note of the way branches connected and different trunks ect...most of its imagination though. (notice the heart in the branches)

Those stickers are warped! interesting drawing style though...
these first two are warm up sheets, basically I just sketched and free drew without much thought or intention. Loosens up the hand and the mind.
This ones done from life and was a 5 minute pose. Im just getting into the whole figure drawing thing...ive always been more into cartoons and comic art but drawing from life is a tough challenge and improves your anatomy drawing skills for whatever style your into.

Some cartoons from this morning... there are a few practice heads from the Preston Blair animation book but the rest are mine. Anybody who's in to animation should grab his book (the thin + cheap one) the style is a little too cutesy for my taste but the principles are solid. My style is a little more deranged.

Some sketch book pages with drawings from various locations. These are the some of the better drawings I have selected out. Alot of stuff in my sketchbook is just scribbles and scrawls.
I have been getting into ink for a medium because it can be more challenging (you have one shot at a line) and it doesnt smudge when your packing your sketch book around. Tell me what you think

Tried my hand at a christmas card type illustration.
Some things I like about it and somethings I dont...
I love the old fashioned nib pen illustrations that used to be popular in the old days...artists like Heinrich Kley and Charles Dana Gibson.

Dragon done in watercolour. Somebody I know wanted a dragon picture done...for some reason I thought the dragon should be on a pumpkin. Gives a nice contrast to the green I guess but not really seasonally appropriate:)

This stuff is for an entrance exam for an art school. I have been recently taking art courses at a local college but it doesnt specialize in visual arts.
I would like to eventually study illustration and fine art/painting full time. It's unfortunate almost all commercial illustration is done through computer software these days ( I like the physical presence of old-school materials, nothing like seeing the thick brush strokes of paint on a van gogh!)
Here is the still life from before but now in motion.

My first oil painting, its of a still life I set up. Had alot of fun with it, amazes me what some people can do with this medium... while painting I kept thinking of how hard it would be to paint a photo realistic portrait or something similar

pencil drawing from today...
always trying to practice...I wanted to try and nail down the shading to give the illusion of depth and structure. The tree fungus on this look too flat\\I love seeing drawings that you can almost literally feel the contours and hollows with your eyes

Im in school for art and I work an a variety of different things. These first two are from a project where I had to read a story and create illustrations to accompany the text. Some of the poses are a little stiff (the girl on the phone for ex.) I'm still trying to give everything that quality of "life" and not looked overly posed or stiff.
last pic is me goofing around in life drawing class. Turned the model into a variety of beasts lol. Any comments are welcome...do you like or not like?

Hey thanks alot, getting good feedback helps sustain my motivation (negative/constructive feedback is also good) As far as art training I think it always comes down to the fundamentals. Learning about line variety, form principles, composition, visual interest...on and on ect. It is essential to draw/paint continuously from life, from reference, models and imagination (and combinations of those)
Another big thing is inspiration...alot of artists can render the shit out of an object but their creative work can be boring, lacking that deeper insight that grabs you (that emotional or spiritual quality that punches you in the gut). Other artists are nothing but ideas and lack the technical skills to pull off their ideas. You got to work both and marry them together to make really bad ass art.
About the whole psychedelic thing. I lately have tried to get as far away from it as possible because it was such a huge part of my younger life (and inspiration for earlier art) I feel like it is time for new challenges, that being said I have plans to re-visit that inspiration upon graduation. I have some plans to illustrate a field guide for mushrooms perhaps and some other projects planned.
some stuff still has a psychedelic quality of otherworldly-ness...I really want to do more trippy work but school work takes alot of my time.
