Ever innoculate a Potatoe??
    #1226008 - 01/17/03 07:50 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Has anyone ever tried "knocking up" a potatoe, with PC??/ I am starting a project, and I just wanted a few tips, I'm wondering if the starchcontent of the potatoe will allow mycelium to flourish or deminish.

Too dense and mushy....

you'd need something to air it out a bit, if it even works that is!!

but . what the heck!

I think putting a potatoe in a PC would be a complete mess, but maybe if you wrapped the potatoe in tin foil, then baked it for a good hour or so.
The potatoe has a skin, so you'd just have to wash w/ bleach or alcohol or just sterilize the outside, then bake it, and inject? I have no Idea.
It wouldn't work probably, not to mention the starch factor.

Yeah, small holes, with a fork. That would do.

I think that IF this was even possible...

the best bet would be to put them in the blender and then pour the potato slury into a pillow case and squeeze out some water, you will end up with a potato paste, mix this up with perlite and vermiculite, and then PC..

I wonder wether one would leave the peel on or take it off.???

maybe someday when i'm really bored and have lots of spores to play with....

This is why the PF Tek was such a breakthrough  A breakthrough because  we dont have to go through the hell of inoculating potatoes anymore

No I like knocking up the ladies. :smirk:

I heard this guy was caught by the police knocking up a pumkin in a pumkin patch a few years back.

I have no idea if you could use potatoe as a substrate.

I would think the ideal way to try this would be to cut some potatoes up and boil them like you would if you were making mashed potatoes...or PDYA.
Take the potatoes out (eat the potatoes)....and use the potatoe water.

Or you could use 5 grams or so of instant potatoes to a cup of water...heat it up and let it cook for awhile.

Add the potatoe water to the Verm....say for example 2 cups of verm and 1 cup of potatoe water...making 4 half pint jars worth.
Then boil the jars or pressure cook them.

I think I'll let you guys try this one.
I'm not in an experimental mood.

good luck!

ROADKILL, That's probably the smartest suggestion...
But does mycelium consume that much starch? Is starch a fat?

I really don't know.
I have no idea if it will work.

But....Potatoe Dextrose Yeast Agar (PDYA) is one of the best agar's for working with cultures IMHO.
The mycelium rips through the PDYA petri dishes.

So give it a try.

I hear that Popcorn has alot of starch and we know Popcorn works.
But I have no idea if potatoes have too much starch.

You never know til its tried.
