Why have they stopped?!
    #1222100 - 01/15/03 05:58 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

I streaked a couple of petri dishes with some cubensis spores about 2 months ago...and they grew...but then they slowed down...like you can still see through the mycelium. and I transfered some mycelium to other fresh agar petri dishes and its not spreading! its been almost a month since the transfer. Tongiht I'm transfering them to some bird seed in a test tube, they better grow...
whats going on? my room temp is always about 21-23 celcius. Its the Homestead Grow Kit. Would it be a shitty strain or something? I keep them in the dark too...

I tried transfering some mycelium to some mica birdseed and the fuckin agar was bone dry! all crunchy. I didn't know that it'd dry up or I wouldda transfered them sooner.

PS: why doesn't anyone ever help me out here. I post and no one says anything. PLus the only time I traded I've been burned. This place is really unwelcoming.

imho: generally when someone posts and doesn't get a reply it's because the question was worded poorly or just plain no one knows the answer.

i think in this case, it's the fact that no one knows. with this kinds of topic, you might get more results asking in advanced cult instead of this basic forum.

i'm sorry about your problems with trades.

Yes agar dries out.  That is the main reason people use parafilm to wrap the sides of their petris.  Some will say that it i to keep out contams, but it isn't.  If you have problems with your agar dryng out try this, make only enough agar for the amount of plates you plan to make.  Do not store already made agar unless it is in a sealable container (i.e. a screw-top flask or bottle; or in poured plates that are kept in their original sleeve in the refrigerator).  Try pouring your plates thicker.  That will keep them hydrated a little longer.  Incubate your agar plates in a tupperware container that is sealed.  You could probably put a small bottle cap in there with some MOIST (not wet) non-iodized table salt to keep the humidity up and reduce the rate of evaporation.  Try some of these and let me know.
