I uploaded all of the PICS on my account page of the shrooms I am asking about! To see the pics please click on my user name over to the left then when you're on my account page scroll down and in the middle at the bottom it says "User Gallery".
Thanks for the help identifying!

Gills: Dark Purple/black
Stem: Thin. tallest was about 2 1/2"-3" inches.

Those are Coprinellus micaceus. Why on Earth would you want to eat them?

Please don't eat those. They look like Bolbitius vitellinus.

They don't look that tasty; I've stumbled upon heaps of those, maybe I should take more notice next time. Apparently they're 'choice'.

Coprinellus micaceus is edible, but only when the gills are white. Once the gills change colour, they rapidly deliquesce into a black, inky paste.

Yeah,,.. for a general tip... ever heard of ( lbms'? ) Thats the shroomer shorthand for little brown mushrooms. A majority of them are easily confused with others and a large amount are poisinous. not worth the risk. If you want to eat wild picked mushrooms.. start with an easy to identify one and make shure to ask a few trusted sources.. and take spore prints.

Although I've never eaten a shiny inkcap myself, almost every source I can find claims that they are fine to eat...
Quote:
Mushroom Observer: It is an edible mushroom, if eaten when young, before gills deliquesce. Some compounds have been extracted from this mushroom that are thought to have antimicrobial properties.
Quote:
Wikipedia: Coprinellus micaceus is a choice edible species,[10][17] and cooking inactivates the enzymes that cause autodigestion or deliquescence—a process that can begin as soon as one hour after collection.[18] One source notes it to be ideal for omelettes,[13] another recommends it as a flavor for sauces,[7] while another describes it as "a very delicate species easily spoiled by overcooking".[19]
A study of the mineral contents of various edible mushrooms found that C. micaceus contained the highest concentration of potassium in the 34 species tested, close to half a gram of potassium per kilogram of mushroom.[20] Because the species can bioaccumulate detrimental heavy metals like lead and cadmium, it has been advised to restrict consumption of specimens collected from roadsides or other collection sites that may be exposed to or contain pollutants.[21]
And according to this site, http://healing-mushrooms.net (Which I'm not extremely familiar with) it does have antimicrobial properties among other health benefits, many of which seem somewhat over my head. I was going to simply quote this site but it has too much info, so here's the link I'm referencing: http://healing-mushrooms.net/archives/coprinellus-micaceus.html
Hmmm... I'd like to hear from someone who has eaten these...

I wouldn't quite lean on such vast overstatements...
I mean, from personal experience I find Coprinellus Micaceus very easy to identify. I think an amateur mushroom hunter may feel perfectly safe in collecting ink caps. Their general appearance is such that even the most untrained observer should not mistake them for species of other groups... The oblong/nearly cylindrical cap, which does not expand until ready to dissolve in inky drops, along with the simple fact C. Micaceus is covered with evanescent glistening granules - which I'm not aware of being a trait of any other species?
Oh. Any ink-caps are rarely brown...
