Coffee Filters!!!

Wondering if anybody else has used coffee filters as filters on there jars in place of disc. I made up some jars and put 1-2 filters on the lid of a few of them and screwed the holder thing on over it. so my holes are just covered by the filter. Any body have any luck doing this?

I've heard of someone doing this with good results. Sounds interesting.

With an internal filter disk, filter material or Tyvck under the lid, then -- coffee filters over the exterior of it. You have a double layer of protection.

But, coffee filters under the lid, will tear, if you shake a WBS, or rye jar.

You can PC an exterior layer of coffee filters, right on the jar. They dry, in an instant, when you open it -- while still hot.

Actually I PC with foil on top. Then when down take ring off inoculate, put 1-2 filters on and screwed ring back on. No tape the ring screws right over the filter and the top is still on the jar with just the hole used for inoculation open. I did PC on jar with the filter on and it dried but I dont think I will do it like that again. As long as the top is on with holes in it you can shake it!

i've seen 1/2 pint jars with nothing covering the holes (5 point innoc) except 2 coffee filters held on with a rubber band. 100% results!

I never cover my holes ever. The straight verm layer seems to take care of it.
