Some questions regarding humidity and the terrarium
    #1223082 - 01/16/03 06:37 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Well, i bought some of the needed supply's and was wondering what you think...

The terrarium:

Small rubbermaid (45x35x25 cm) which is to be covered by a heavy glass plate with rubbers to make it airtight. A small hole will be drilled for the entering airtube and a filter exit will be placed on the other end (low).

The bubler:

Moves 1.6 L air a minute and has a 4" bublestone.  was wondering whether it would provide a proper level of humidity in the current setup (so there will be no need to fan) assuming i want to do a casing.

I bought some vermiculite and some peat. The pH of the peat is 5 - 6.5 Would this still need the addition of limestone?

My syringes do not feature a plugger with a rubber end. What are the consequenses?

The incubator works with a 75 Watt aquarium heater (since the rubbermaid is small i figured 75 would be enough). But at what temp. should I adjust it?

Thnx

looks good to me. some people don't add lime and do fine. don't know about syringe since i always order them pre-made. adjust your heater until you get the right temp in the chamber. don't judge temp in the chamber by the setting on the heater.

I would fan just to be safe, although I've seen massive flushes grown with only the use of a bubbler for air-exchange.

well-laid plans lead to good things. those are well-laid plans, and in my crystal ball i forsee visual hallucinations, giggling, and many happy hours tinkering.

good job, sir. 1.6L per minute may shift all the air you need, and remember exit holes for CO2 at floor level. consider light, warmth, humidity and air exchange and you'll be grinning in no time.

Everything looks great except the syringes. I don't know if they are what you want. try filling them 1/2 full of water (needle removed), stick your finger over the business end and draw the plunger back. If it sucks air around the plunger easy then it will be difficult to keep steril.

Best of luck. AWG
