 2 Creepers Casings (pics)! Need advice.

A friend of mine has two 9 x 12 inch casings with 3 1/2 pint brf cakes in each (of creepers). Its his first time casing. He put a 1 inch layer of scotts 3 in 1/verm/peat mixture on bottom, broke up 3 creeper brf cakes and made an even layer then cased with 1/4" of the same stuff thats on bottom. He let it incubate until the mycellium started to break through the casing layer (about 3 days). It was then put in the terrarium about 3 days ago. There is now mycellium breaking through the casing layer evenly all over both of them. They are getting about 8-12 hours of light per day (via 28" flourescent plant light) and constant air exchange (via fish tank air pump). He also fans 2 times a day. He was wondering if he should patch up the spots that are breaking through or should he leave it. He's worried about overlay but the casing layer is nice and moist. Right now the terrarium is at 75 degrees steady and humidity is at 95%. He also wanted to know how long it will take for him to get pins. Thanks alot guys.

without a pic it is hard to say but acording to your description it sounds like you can stop patching and wait. 2 weeks before you should be concerened about lack of pins. i would recommend that you drop the temp another 5 degrees if possible and lower the humidity to something between 85-90, maybe lower. rH is kinda guesstimatory and learned with experience concerning casing.

those casings look fine to me, i wouldn't worry about overlay.
look at this link if you're still worried;

scroll down a few pages and look at the nice picture of casing overlay. there's much much more mycelium showing than what your casings have.. err, i mean your friend's casings =)

your pictures look fine.. you should see pins in a few days.

just be patient. your casings look fine. is the mycilium knotting up at all?

the mycellium is just starting to get knots in a few places. They are very small right now. How long do you think till he should see pins?
