Can I pauesterize the Mycotapro Compost?
    #1222144 - 01/15/03 06:28 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Hello All,

I went to check out the amazing sounding compost found at http://www.mycotapro.com and I was wondering if I can pauesterize this compost, or do I have to sterilize it. I read that strictly only dung and wheat straw can be pauesterized!

All I know is, I need to stick to something that I can pauesterize, because being 100% sterile sucks my ass!

Let me know what you find,

you might want to email him and ask him.

I have no idea what his product does yet.
But I'd guess that its a great product... considering who is making it.

His compost is suppose to be the best for exotic mushrooms! Boxtop reccommends them is all I know!

I dunno though, if it has to be sterilized, I'm just going to go with dung and wheatstraw, because like I said before, being sterile sucks ass!!

Dung and Wheatstraw seems like it would be much more forgiving:)! Infact, i'm going to follow your horse poo tek Roadkill!

Thanks for replies,

Yeah, but I can Pauesterize the friggin' compost? That's all I need to know! I already believe that this compost will be just awesome! I just don't want to have to sterilize it and work in that sterile of conditions! Pausterizing seems soo much more appealing!!

Oh yeah, here's a quick question I just thought of. I guess I just automatically assumed that I can use colonized jars of BRF to spawn on some compost, or dung/wheatstraw... or do I have to use grain spawn, like rye grain. Or can I use my colonized BRF jars?

I can't wait to see these creeper's pin!!! After I got this one under my belt, i'm gonna try some Golden Teachers!

Thanks for your replies,

Pasteurize it. Some people sterilize, Joshua comes to mind (go look in the growlog section if you are not familar with his work), but I'd say you'd have more success with pasteurization.

You can most certainly use colonized cakes. Helpful hint, when you spawn the poo with the cake, you may want to grate the cake with a cheese grater instead of breaking it up by hand, it will give you many more inoculation points, and that will help speed up the colonization of the poo.

of course you can. either crumble it with your CLEAN hands, or you can even put it in a mixer/blender with blades and cut it to fiiiiine pieces lol its okee, in 2 days it will start colonizing the compost.

I thought you were asking if it comes already pasturized.
I don't know if it comes already pasturized...but you can pasturize it.
You don't have to sterilize compost.

You can use BRF jars to spawn anything...so yes.
The reason people use Rye and Birdseed is that it colonizes faster, easier to make up once you learn how, and grains give you more inoculation points than cakes and makes more substrate than the BRF cakes.

good luck!

hehehehehehe...... excellent!! um... so I'd have to sterilize the compost found at http://www.mycotapro.com?

Quote from the website, of what the compost consists of:

"blend of premium organic wheat straw, dry, aged cow & horse manure, vegetable & fruit produce, and spent micro/brewery grain that is scientifically formulated specifically for growing exotic mushrooms. To attain a uniform consistency, our custom compost is pre/shredded, then mechanically windrowed, moistened & repeatedly aerobically turned on a precise schedule (photo 1 above). After the composting phase is completed, it is screened to insure it?s size & quality. Then, partially dehydrated to lower it?s bulk weight, to reduce shipping costs"

Can I pausterize this? If not, looks like i'm goin to have to go get my ice chisel and try and crack off some chunks of frozen dried horse poo:)

Thanks for all da help,

-Gthirteens

Yes.  If you ask again, I will hunt you down, kick you in the balls, and steal your compost, then I'll do a growlog where I pasteurize it.

whoops... sorry roadkill I didn't read your last post before I posted my last one! So i guess I can pausterize it huh? That's great news, cause when I read about this compost it just looked perfect for spawning, but I read somewhere that only dung and wheatstraw can be pausterized, if there's anything added to it then you have to sterilize!

YES!!!! I can't wait!!

I was also wondering if just relying on fanning once or twice a day is enough to remove co2. I have some air pumps, but I'd rather fan them everyday and know they're getting the gas exchange, than just turn on a pump and hope that will be enough air exchange!

besides, once the casings are fully colonized you don't really have to worry about contams right?

I'm planning on pinning in a terrarium with perlite, then when I bring the humidity down for the fruiting stage I'm gonna just have a bubbler system going, with no perlite!

I'm doing this because it's easy to achieve high RH with perlite, but it's hard to bring the RH down with perlite, so I figure I'll just transfer the trays to a bubbler system.

Thanks for all the help,
-Gthirteens

wait a second, I just read it in another thread like 30 minutes ago!  once a casing is fully mature and starting to pin it has some kind of antibodies or something like that, that helps it fight off contams.  Tons of people posted saying that they fan everyday and never have problems with contams, and some don't even use lysol!

We were talking about BRF cakes not casings.

usually by my rule of thumb if i get my tanks to take off in the first week i don't see contam and usually make it thru to the 3rd flush sometimes 4th and 5th
but there usually tossed for new compost on the 3rd
