Don't really know how to clarify my question further than that, but does anyone have a worthy link for a n00b to start getting into this?
Thanks.

xb browser or tor

1) Tor is slow. Maybe xerobank is faster, but I think its best to tunnel your web traffic over ssh. That way its still almost full speed. You'll need a unix shell account. Google ssh web tunneling for more info.
2) Always encrypt your hard drive. It does little good to encrypt all your web traffic if they can just come in, image your drive and get all the plaintext.
3) Always have a password protected screen locker. It does little good to encrypt your HD if your screen doesn't require a password after a few minutes of inactivity.

I never thought tunneling was that great of security. You don't need to do a tunnel to use SSH.
Besides if they have a warrant to locate you they'll just send it to your shell account provider and get you just the same.
A system like tor is really the only way to be secure.

Tor is fast enough for browsing/posting the shroomery for what it is worth. The only time when I really notice the speed is when uploading images and files. I'd prefer a set of shell accounts in the right countries though.
-------------------- Let's upgrade our security practices and move toward client-side PGP for encrypted PMs. My Public PGP Key: hxxps://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24002249#24002249

You can browse here without logging in and just use tor for logging in or posting.
If you remember back in the days before broadband you probably have lots of tricks for browsing faster.
I usually open many links in new windows and by the time I'm done opening them the first is done and the rest are ready when I get to them. It works well for forums and the like.
