Iraqi scientists

Bush is trying to get saddam to allow some of his top scientists and thier families to leave the country so they can be questioned without threat of saddams wrath.I think this is cool, and if saddam does not allow it I think it proves that he is guilty!
If saddam refuses ,I am going to reevaluate my position on the matter.

Forget it. None of this has anything whatsoever to do with weapons of mass destruction - that's just the cover story.

Hell, in the 80's Bush and Reagan couldn't give Saddam weapons of mass destruction fast enough.

Why would Saddam refuse if he had nothing to hide? What is the inside story? What's your view?

I think it is worth rembering that during the 90's sources from the weapons inspectors said that Iraq complied with around 90% of all requests made upon them. They only kicked the inspectors out after an article in the Washington Post ,of all places, claimed some of the inspectors were US spies. Now the Post is hardly known as a mouthpiece for Iraqi propaganda is it?!
If you were in Sadaams posistion would you really want your top personnel being taken away by the very people who have thousands upon thousands of troops on your doorstep ready to try and destroy you?
How can he be sure that they wont cut a deal with these people? The US govt could offer some pretty hefty incentives for a bit of creative storytelling by the scientists.
I dont think Sadaam's refusal automatically proves his guilt but I do think it proves he is not completely stupid.

Because he knows that we would offer them citizenship and jobs to come to our side. Its a trick not only to get information but to remove the scientists out of Iraq.

If the scientists are sent to USA, then Dubya will come up with some new thing..."Sadam's hiding the superflu up his ass. He must submit to a USA rectal examination...anything less will be considered grounds for war..."

If I was him I'd either sign over all the oil to Dubya&co or else send the scientists, submit to the rectal exam, and do anything else required in order to unmask this ridiculous charade the USA's putting on. Maybe that would cause the USA the most harm in the end anyways, to be exposed as the imperialist monster it is. Not the liberater, but the taker. To go in and just take what it wants, and kill whoever stands in the way. Cuz USA's not waiting for evidence. It decided to strike a long time ago. All it needs is the slighest legitimacy, but it don't even really have the patience for that.

The US has flagrantly flouted UN resolutions for decades. Never been invaded once.

Saddam isn't going to refuse. He doesn't want to fight a war with us.

Thing is, we're going to attack him no matter what he does, what we find (or don't find), who says what, who helps us, or anything. And that is not because he sponsors terrorism, or is a threat to our country, it is for his oil. Everyone knows this.

That's a big claim, not saying I don't think its possible, just wondering if you have any proof for this claim, that would be typical, eh?

It was all over the news, I'll try and find a link for you. Basically they said it was because there was sensitive info related to WMD in there!! a complete crock of shit! Anyone can find out how to make WMD from the internet. It tells me the US does not trust most of the members of the UN. But my theory is that the document listed even more american and european countries who had knowingly supplied Iraq with WMD materials, probabaly with full government backing Remember there was around 50 US and European countries listed in the part of the document that wasnt edited out!!

Why do you think otherwise? 15 years ago Reagan and Bush couldn't arm Saddam with weapons of mass destruction fast enough. Why should he suddenly change from a wonderful US-approved person who should be given as many weapons as possible to an evil threat? It's the same guy. Only now he's several thousand times less a threat than he was in the 80's because he hasn't got a fraction of the arms he had then.

It's not about arms, it's about oil.

OK, I've heard all that before, but it doesn't even come close to answering my question. How do you know we are invading Iraq for oil and no other reason?

Why does it have to be the only reason? If its part of the reason and they are denying it that is wrong.

Well the previous post kinda explained it.

If we were invading Iraq on humanitarian grounds or concerns about "weapons of mass destruction" we would have done it 15 years ago.
