no. uncomposted organic matter is a hotspot for contams.
this is why you specifically take out the woodchips from peat when you use that.

unless your talking about a different species, from a different substrate, using pasteurised / steriled chips....?
didn't think so

it won't work for cubensis, i promise, unless it's more like shredded than chipped. even then....  :frown:

if you still want to try, pasteurising is 170F for about 45mins. Don't worry if you accidentally sterilise it instead, i think you'd have more chance of success. just use verm instead.

what do you mean by that?
and i would just use verm instead, but its hard to find around here, plus i plan on growin B+ and theyre a wood loving species i beleive. so wouldnt using wood chips inbstead of just verm give me a better yeild?

i mean, if you accidentally get it to 212F (100C, boiling) - pasteurising is what you do when you don't mind leaving a few bugs behind. i don't think you want to pasteurise your woodchips. i don't think you should use your woodchips, but if you really want to try, better they're sterilised.

yes, they're woodloving in the wild....

okay, if no verm, try coir, or even potting soil, or cactus soil, or something else. anything else.

Coir is made from coconut husks. Look for a product called Bed-a-Beast in your local pet shop.

I sterilize it in the microwave for ten minutes.

Put the wet coir in a covered container, nuke it for 5 minutes, stir and then give it another 5 minutes. Some people add verm to the coir so that it retains more water.

Most companies pre sterlize the coir. Its compacted into bricks which need a lot of steam and pressure to achieve the small shape.

Its fine just to add water to it, but, if you want you could sterlize it again.
