 agar problems

I've recently starting experimenting with agar and I am having some major contamination issues. Do you folks who are experienced with agar find that agar contaminates more readily than other growth mediums?
For instance, if I exposed some prepared grain and an equal surface area of agar to the open air, are the chances of the agar contaminating greater than that of the grain?
I'm wondering if my glovebox, which works fine for working with grain transfers etc., is insuffient for agar.

Dog agar does contam easy cause it is rich in nuts . your glove box should work just fine . Are u useing petredishes or something els, maybe you are serializing it wrong . explain how u prepar it .

I used the standard PDA recipe in the FAQ, PC'd at 15 PSI for 50 minutes. After it cooled I poured it into petri dishes in my glovebox and then inoculated each with three drops from a syringe after it had set.
The same syringe was used to inoculate a couple of rye jars 1/2 hour later. The jars grew the good stuff, the dishes contamed.

Mine always contaminates! But it might have something to do with my house being filthy!

It sounds like you may have pressure cooked it to long, I think that after 30 minutes or so the sugars of the dextros carmelize. I think this is true for all agar formulas. I am pretty sure that 30 minutes was the maximum you should cook them but not 100%

Agar contains a lot of nutrients and contaminates easily.
Try to use peroxide (H2O2) next time. It works great!

How long do you wait for inoculation after pouring the agar in the petri dishes ?

I do not recall exactly but it was at least 1/2 hour. The agar had set so I assumed it was cool enough.

If it was set then it was cool enough. Watch out that step, don't be in hurry.
