LYSOLing casing!!

Okayyyy then..
Well, here is the lo-down.. i had a casing made in a 3 gallon rubbermaid container,
Consisted of millet, spawned in aprox 1 sq foot of straw in a plastic bag( let it colonize for about 2 weeks ) then added to another sq foot of more straw cased with peat moss in the bin.
Made a 2 to 3 inch layer of straw with about 1 inch of dirt on top.
Had this covered with tin foil and sprayed with peroxide, it was doing good for the first week, then i noticed some tiny white looking hairs, wich i mistook for mycelium, i left it be for a fewmore days and today noticed that it's COBWEB arghhh... so instead of throwing it out the window, i decided to experiment, i scraped the top off the casing with a spoon, then i bombed that fucker with lysol!!!! covered with new tinfoil and let it sit.
What do you guys predict will happen!!!
Mycelium has not reached the top yet, with is a concern, it should have by now.
i'll report later and tell you what happened!!

my experience with lysol is that it is extremely toxic to mycellia, and persistant residues likely remain. i tend to doubt you'll have much yield, if any. next time try peroxide, it's pretty effective on cobweb mold. and non-toxic to shrooms.

I Suggest, Spray with lysol wipe down and repeat then do you new steps and use Peroxide for spraying.

ha ha,, fair enough.
i was going to throw it away anyways.. so i figured, IN THE INTERST OF SCIENCE!
I want to start over fresh, ever since i've noticed how much better fresh syringes work, specially purple ones( very dark ) compared to the ones i had that looked like clear water...
after 2 weeks in the bin, if i don't have mycelium coming up thru the casing layer, it's too slow and not worth the bother.. so fukit.
Oh well, ... live and learn.. so lysol really kills eh!! i might try to scrape another layer and spray again but this time with peroxide.
Can i spray pure h2o2? at 6 part/volume..? i usually mix it up with water to about 1/2 and 1/2.. but given the situation!

I had helped you with htis in the contam forum (pretty sure this was you) anyway, a note to all: Lysol is no magical disinfectant, it is freaking ethanol, ALCOHOL for the uninitiated. Alcohol kills mycelium, shrroms, you, pretty much everything. Please don't spry your casings with lysol. H2O2 is not nearly as toxic to mycelium but will kill or stop most contams. think before spraying.

You will have better luck putting it into frozen ground than spraying it with lysol !

cOOL.
no it was not me, i've never posted in the contam forum.. it's a yucky place !!
haha..
but thanks for the info tho!!
Lysol is made with Ethanol you say??? must be some aditives cuz that shit stinks, ethanol would smell like moonshine. right?
That casing has to go no matter what. so , no biggie!!
Straw and Bird seed are cheap.. and time --- i have.
So, thanks again to all who replied!!!

the ingredients are listed, IIRC you've got dimethyl benzyl ammonium chlorides and ethyl benzyl ammonium chlorides (don't have a bottle on hand, could be wrong) in there and some "inert" ingredients. the inerts are propellants and proly have alittle smell. the nasty smell comes from the alkyls which are in there in very low percentages. these are microbial surfacants and not very happy stuff for fungus or for you (pretty sure that is the residue left behind since ethyl pretty much immediately evaporates). check this out:

I've recently started using " Potasium metasulphite " to clean my work aerea, hands, equipment etc.... it's wine making cleaner. Very cheap, it's not as airborne as lysol, does not smell as bad, and does not iritate my sinuses!!!
Quote::
potassium metabisulfite [puh-TAS-ee-uhm meht-uh-bi-SUHL-fite] A white powder or salt containing approximately 57 percent sulfur dioxide. Potassium metabisulfite also comes in tablet form, known as Campden tablets. Meta, as it's also called, is dissolved in warm water before being used. When stirred into wine or must, it reacts with natural acids to release sulfur dioxide, which protects wines from unwanted bacteria and oxidation.
