We need Alcohol prohibition.
    #12196549 - 03/13/10 06:05 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

The only way we will ever change anything in this world regarding the mentality towards inebriates in general is if we push for alcohol & tobacco to be made illegal.

The idea being that it will affect a very large cross section of society resulting in uproar against the concept of prohibition in general. If alcohol was rightly placed up there as a Schedule 1 drug and demonized to the same degree drugs like heroin and ecstasy are (using their own propaganda, most of which is applicable directly to alcohol), we would hopefully catalyze a mass awakening in the collective conscience of society with regard to the concept of prohibition.

When everyone is a criminal, there are no criminals .

That's the whole idea though, piss off everyone to make them realize the absolutely massive hypocrisy.

The whole time you have the support of every fundamentalist religious type out there. Many religions explicitly forbid any kind of inebriate...

With that kind of backing you really can change the world.

Fuck the whole point in the affair would be make a direct comparison to drug prohibition, use government statistics to show how much "safer" they've made the world as a result.

Bring the hypocrisy to the masses in a form that is absolutely undeniable.

No-one cares about persecution until it is they who are persecuted.

The whole point is to fail miserably.

Short term sacrifice for a long term gain.

I agree with you Cepheus on your point. If more people thought, "hey.. weed is just like having a beer" things might actually fucking change

For some reason the word "drug" makes it inherently bad... yet there is sooooo much double standards in this society its FUCKED

If we started campaigning against alcohol and shit people would go CRAZY because its ACCEPTED here.

Let me get this straight, the only way to show people the error of banning substances is to.... ban more substances?

It actually makes sense.
Think about how many people drink that don't care about the current prohibition of other substances.

If you ban their substance of choice the idea would be to put them in the shoes of a weed smoker or what have you.

Don't know if it would work or not though, they'd probably just want alcohol back.

Yes, exactly.
You ban everything until people realize how stupid banning them in the first place was.
However I don't see this going through, I could see some sort of campaign comparing beer and drugs having an positive effect, but I don't think this idea would go over well at all..

When its as widely accepted as alcohol... yes. So many people will adopt the "from my cold dead hands" ideology which has seen massive support for your pro-gun laws, that people will actually recognise the hypocrisy.

Throughout the campaign you'd plaster the public in the exact same anti-drug propaganda they use for hard drugs and make direct comparisons to the physical side effects I see regularly exaggerated.

I want every beer swilling pig to be revelled with anger and pure hatred towards me and my campaign... the whole shebang. The more pissed off the nation is the better.

The more demonized the general public become, the more compared to stereotypical drug users the better.

I want them gathering in masses screaming for my blood at the very idea of prohibition... at which point you point out the similarities in the current draconian legal system.

You have to understand, we - the "illicit" drug users - are a minority, and as such will never get things changed as long as the majority are fighting against us. If everyone is a criminal for their substance use, then things will be changed; ultimately as a society we decide the laws.

Cepheus has the right idea, imo.

Of course I don't agree with banning alcohol, but it might very well have a real impact on how people view drugs/prohibition.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "Oh, me? I don't do drugs" out of someone's mouth while they're guzzling down a 12 pack.

it makes total sense, but one problem.
how would this actually work?
alcohol and tobacco are one of the main profits for our economy.
it would cost in the billions to prepare them to be illegal, and we lose in the billions of annual tax income. not to mention even MORE money to enforce the laws, building more prisons ect.
we are already in debt. doing this would turn the whole of society down to shit.
then organized crime will make soooo much more money from tobacco and alcohol leading to more serious crimes.

the list could go on.

doing this would fuck us up.
it's impossible to manage this.

It could work, but IMO taking away any freedom for any amount of time is still a step backwards. It's not a bad idea, though. I understand the sentiment, but I wouldn't support it. What it's going to take is honest, down to earth education. And time.
