Police raid drug lab in town of Ohio

Tue, Jan 14, 2003

By KELLY HASSETT
Observer-Dispatch
A Schuyler man has been charged after the discovery of a lab with more than 300 hallucinogenic mushroom plants in the Adirondack foothills, state narcotics officers said Monday.

Thomas J. Feliciano, 23, of Route 5, was charged Thursday after state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team members raided a laboratory on Gray-Wilmurt road in Ohio, police said.

Officials found more than 300 containers of plant growth of psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms in various stages of growth, as well as marijuana plants being grown using artificial lights, police said.

Police said they also found humidifiers, drying equipment, hypodermic needles containing mushroom spore residue, a stolen .45-caliber handgun with ammunition, a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun and .22- caliber rifle, four stun guns and a computer.

Police said this lab is one of the first of its kind to be discovered in this area. Psilocybin labs are more commonly operated on the West Coast because the mushroom is indigenous to that part of the country, particularly Oregon and Washington, police said.

Feliciano rented the house on Gray-Wilmurt Road specifically for operating the lab, police said.

He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor; and a misdemeanor charge of possession of stolen property, police said.

The investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible, police said.

Theres a damn good possibility. Chances are that anyone who knows how to cultivate mushrooms used this forum, as not many sources give accurate information.

yeah, that was the second reason i posted it, first being perhaps it was someone from here -- just not a popular or "personality" of the forums.

it's ok, cops dont know exactly what they are busting a guy for, they just know that they are busting him. If they want to call mushrooms plants then that makes their ignorance that much more obvious. The guy was kind of asking for it though with 300 containers going, multiple MJ plants and stolen guns (which is probably why he was investigated in the first place). So basically, it's the guy's own fault for being so careless.

wtf makes u think a cop wrote plants down im sure the reporter simplified it for people who dont grow shrooms, which has got to be more the 99% of the population by calling it plants, what else would he say that everyone would understand, certainly not PF TEK Jars or Dung Casings

Shrooms=definate fungus and not a plant.  Cops are just dumbasses and don't know what they are talking about.  As for the guy, bad luck for him but he still should get more.  It was obviouse what he was going to do with all that growth..............

I think as long as someone has progressed beyond 5th grade science they would know that a mushroom is a fungus and not a plant. I mean hell i remember learning the Kingdoms of life in second grade.

That's just a dumb journalist, i don't believe the cops said anything about mushroom-plants.

That could be true, but it's far more satisfying saying that cops are dumbasses! :smirk:

Since this post is about me I'd like to clarify a couple things (so be it 3 years later). First of all I was not careless.... at least not in the beginning. I moved about 100 miles every 60 days and never worked where I played. In the end it came down to a couple punks breaking into one of my houses while I wasn't there (that was the mistake) and ratting my out (when it became them or me). Secondly I believe its entirely possible the police called my babies plants, I'm sure there a little more up-to-date after finding my house, but they were a far cry from intelligent back then. They didn't even know how to charge me. If there weren't dangerous toys in the house or if I had a bit of money to kick down I would've been able to start up again in a couple days. Cops around here are more worried about crack and amphetamines than they are fungus. Third I'd like to add that I was a shroomery regular although paranoia kept me from sharing or posting anything. This site is a wealth of knowledge and a must for any successful grower (I bow to its creators). Finally I just want to add that although one should be careful one shouldn't overestimate the cops, they have power, but they aren't as bright as most would think.

I think overestimating is a good thing either way, as long as it isn't putting you into *more* danger somehow by doing something stupid (Like packing up all your gear into a van and trying to go dispose of it in some dumpster. Crappy example, but I'm finding it difficult to find one where paranoia does more harm than good).

Either way, great to see you about. I've always wondered how many of these stories involve this site.
