Exotic Pets
    #12185064 - 03/11/10 05:51 PM (14 years, 20 days ago)

Just wondering what types of exotic pets you guys have.

I have an African Pygmy Hedgehog. They are considered exotic. Here is a picture of her. Her name is Lily.

What else do you guys have?

I designed a website for someone I knew. They go for around $125-175 for an unregistered one. If they are registered and have papers they are $250+.

Yeah, she is really friendly. I have only let her play with a tp roll once or twice as you are suppose to wait until they are a bit bigger. She's big enough now though. She LOVES mealworms though. If you give her one of those, she is your best friend.

Those geckos are cool as hell. I thought about getting a couple. I'd really like a jacksons chameleon though.

Yup, mean as fuck. It's just a trait of the species, they're incredibly aggressive and can be noisy. Before she got used to me she used to make that god awful bark/scream and get in defense posture whenever I got within 3 feet of her tank.

Her name is Mary, as in Queen Mary I of England(Bloody Mary).

Yeah, actually bred them, I'm waiting on the female to lay eggs.

I had a male for a while, but I had to put it down. I found some dude in The Bronx who wanted to get rid of one. The thing looked like shit from the day I got it. I'm guessing it was wild caught and it had a parasite, because no matter what I would feed it, he just kept getting skinnier and skinnier. I couldn't just sit back and let an animal waste away like that so he went to sleep in the freezer and never woke up

It's sad, but sometimes you gotta know when to be a friend to your pets and do the right thing.  Just had my dog of 11 years put down last week; it was a little depressing, but I was happy to see her relieved.

I'm not sure if you would consider ferrets as exotic, but here is my pet ferret Chewbacca or "Chewie" for short. As you can see he is a camera whore but it just loves him.

The last one is my lovely exotic pet wife Elizabeth <3

I got him a little stoned once. He kept coming back for us to blow smoke in his face lol. My cat spike and my dog sherlock always come down to the basement in the smoke room when we burn. We always blow them smoke and they always sit there and love it. It's funny when were done the animals start eating the crap out of their food and we go make something to much on too lol.

A friend worked at a place that took in exotic pets
from bad owners/situations. I ended up with them.

Me and my roommate bought some Sonoran Desert Toads. They're fucking huge.

He's had alot of reptilian animals growing up so it wasn't as exciting as it was for me to watch them eat and well... thats really all they do.

NoxVolpes, tell your roommate they need new substrate. That shit is moldy. Try cocoa fiber or bark for those toads. They like burrowing substrate, but if it gets moldy it can easily kill them. Frog/toad + mold = dead frog/toad.

Shredded Aspen is more for desert snakes and lizards.

Me and my roommate bought some Sonoran Desert Toads. They're fucking huge.

He's had alot of reptilian animals growing up so it wasn't as exciting as it was for me to watch them eat and well... thats really all they do.

That's quite a tiny cage and doesn't seem he has much cover to get to. Also not a good sign he's standing in the corner like that, he is trying to find a way to safety.

I had a colombian red tail boa before I moved to my new place.  They wouldn't allow lizards here so I had to part ways with her.  She was around 8-9 feet long I believe.

Not mine but a picture of one smaller:

Hey thank guys for the complements and the info.

The guy we got them from had them both in 1 tank with only 1 hollow log. When we got them home we seperated them into 2 10 gallon tanks.

We keep buying them crickets and those do fine but i wish there was something that i could just keep instead of getting a bunch of crickets and feeding them all at once.

I used to keep all manner of odd pets.  I dont much care for the normal cats and dogs.  Snakes were always my fav.

Roomie has 2 ball pythons now, so I dont need to get another snake for a while.

I recently delved into salt water reef tanks.

Basically I have about 10 types of coral growing under halides, candy cane pistol shrimp paired with a high fin goby (symbiotic), one fire fish, 2 sexy shrimp, cleaner shrimp, porcelain crab (filter feeds), pom pom crab (uses anemones to sweep food up in its claws, carries em around) all sorts of crazy worms, micro brittle stars, and multitudes of other tiny life that grows int he sand bed and around the rocks.

Camera is broke so no pics yet, but you can google any one of thsoe names and get pics.

He fed them one time I was over and they make a really creepy hiss type sound, and it constantly tried to take a chunk out of his hand.

My poison dart frog (d. tinctorius)
You can't see it in that pic (he's hard to take pics of), but his sides fade from yellow into a really pretty turquoise.
We also have a 5ft iguana, 2 bearded dragons, 3 firebelly toads, and a fiddler crab.

Sounds like a nice reef tank. What size? What kinda corals you keeping? LPS, SPS, zoos or all of the above?
