It always feels like christmas when i uncover a casing to see healthy mycelium, and.....something else.......when i discover contam...

But if i say i wont check it for 2 weeks, i always end up peeking at say one week. :tongue:

I dont think that would be long enough to completely sterilize it. Sure it might kill most of the stuff...but not all.

This is my first bulk attempt but i would say its looking
pretty good so far.


What do you think? no signs of any contams from my view point.
But still early days i suppose.

I'm wondering if there isnt enuff air exchange as road kills in another log was way past this in 3 days and looked like mine does now on day 1 lol.
This is day 5 i think.
So maybe you were right about a few holes.
I'll manualy air change every 2 days see what happens.

Or i may stick a filtered air hose in and create a positive air flow.
What i will do is look again in 24 hours if theres a sudden change due to me leting  in new air today ill add the hose i think.if its still on a go slow ill leave it be.

Btw is this a bulk or a casing?
i was thinking its a bulk and to case it later? but maybe bulk means much  bigger?

Your casing looks like mine exept mine has been incubating for a week now.  We'll see if your airflow helps or harms then i can change it! :wink:

I thought air change wasn't nescessary during inncubation... :tongue:

It may be a little slower to totally take over all the poo and straw due to the small about of spawn used(you only had the one jar correct?)

This is considered a bulk substrate.
It will become a casing after you apply a casing layer on it.

I mean a vegtable steamer instead of a pressure cooker,and yes just the one jar of spawn.That makes more sense then i see now.More spawn = faster colinization.So you dont fan your bulk ?cool as i didnt really wont to as it seems like an invite to nastys :smile: ill stick to the filter and recheck progress in another 5 days.
