I hear to case them. I hear not to case them. I've read to case them. I've read it doesn't matter. Would you case them or not. Does it matter? Does it not?

A proper monotub should provide an appropriate environment either way. What substrate are you using?

IME casing layers are not needed for a mono. Remember a casing layer is mainly a micro climate at the substrate surface to maintain proper Rh. So if the mono is made right it will maintain proper Rh anyways.

A casing layer isn't needed for monotubs. I haven't noticed any difference in cased vs uncased tubs. Plus the casing layer adds another vector for contamination. The few times I've had contaminated monos, the contamination was in the casing layer.

Straw and cow manure, actually. Fresh manure. From the field. What are you thinking?

Yea Shea25. Fully dried manure(grey). 3 inch straw. Pasteurized properly. 170 degrees boiling water for an hour. The question I was having is concerning casing. TO case or not to case.
What are you thinking Doc T.?

Coir doesn't need casing as much as some other materials, that's all I was thinking. Poo/straw, you probably want to case most of the time- but not in a monotub, no need.

I heard you Damien5050 and FooMan too. I just wanted to hear what DocT had to say. I like that dude. Thanks for all the useful information on the subject. I have no use for a contamination vector or the extra cost.

Well. That's what I wanted to hear. Why do you say monotubs are contam prone anyway? What do you suggest?
