OUTDOOR SHROOM BED

Hey all, long time no post. In the spring I will be making a shroom bed , it will be rather long at 6 feet x 2 feet wide ,my question is: what is the optimum height of the bed(thickness of mycellum) as this will be a RAISED bed. Raised because of the elements (flooding) and those F!@#ing slugs and their F!@#ing snail buddies. Think of a 12 square foot outdoor casing covered in EQ pins!!!

If this is an outdoor grow why are you concerned about how much head space they have??
How big will these get!?!?!

You can go up to a foot, anything past that won't be good.

Why not over a foot ,any specific reason? I was thinking along the lines of 8-10'' but I'm just curious. Thinking about the size of the shrooms is the perfect way to kill time till spring.

When the substrate is deeper than a foot then something happens, damnit, I forgot, it has something to do with anaerobic something, damn damn damn, I hate weed.
Seriously though, I forgot exactly why. I read a post about it a while back. Try to do a search, good luck.
Oh, and 8-10" sounds real nice.

I`ve had substrates deeper than that before skikid. I have no idea what the maximum height is but I`ve never had a problem with 8" substrates before. I would`nt go thicker than that because I think it`s a waste.

oops We have realised that working in inches and pounds is way too outdated. I work in cm and kg. Like the rest of the world. US is spcial though I guess.

boo ! hiss !
these newfangled 'metric' systems
last year in the UK a guy got jailed for selling fruit 'n veg off a stall in lbs: he knew he would, he was a test case to see if they'd bite. they did, fucking beaurocrats.
Keep the UK out of Europe! No messing with the ?!

I have read that the bigger the mycellial network - the bigger the shrooms get . Any truth in that statement?

If you are going to do an outdoor bed you should think about starting a compost bed, probably wouldn't be too bad of an idea to put some manure and chopped wheat straw in your bed and let it compost a little before the season starts, just and idea....

i do like the metric system. it's great. all measurements have a real world standard and the 10-scale is stupid simple. for bigass numbers or smallass numbers it works wonders. in EE (elec. eng.) you can't live without it. however I wasn't taught anything about it until ~3rd grade. the metric system is useless to me concerning real world applications. i can draw you a line that is exactly 1 inch long. Riding in a car I can tell you exactly when a mile has passed just by feel. looking at a counter top or whatever I can pretty much tell you exactly how long it is in feet. i could pour you almost exactly a cup of water by feel. the standard system is intuitive to me in every way. the metric system is not and quite simply never can be no matter how much I would want it to be. if you say you weigh Xkg I'm confused but it makes perfect sene to say you weigh Xlb. if you learned the standard system from birth and you live in a society that quite simply cannot just drop that system and switch then you understand. it is pretty obnoxious to call the US dumb or stupid because we hold onto a system that is very ingrained in our society and was around WAY before the metric system. it's like holding it against us that we speak english (our version) or drive on the right side of the road. believe me, it is tougher on us than on anyone not-us as anyone who has fumbled with two sets of sockets while fixing their car can tell you. (i used to lay carpet and the material is referred to in yards (which are actually square yards) and have always wondered what the hell the metric loving carpet layers refer to it as (square meters? hah!, the rug is either 12 foot goods or 15 foot goods) and how the hell they could ever get a job laying carpet over here.... also do you guys have 100ml litre jars ior whatever as opposed to pint, quart, etc.?)
