insulating material when incubating
    #1216944 - 01/14/03 08:17 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

suupp yalll

I have been thinking about how I could my incubater better as it has a few problems:
Its is a propogater with a heating element in the bottom which heats jars directly. Also my jars sit in a cold cupboard and I worry that the heat doesnt heat the jars evenly (only form the bottom) This I what i am worried about so I have found some large bubble wrap to lay on the bottom, so that the jars can sit on top, and I will also lay this bubble wrap around the sides in order to get an even heat in the propogater which heats at about 87. What do youll think of this idea??

You're better off using an old t-shirt but that may be a fire hazard. Maybe put the jars in a tray with water in it.

Why do you think a t-shirt would be better? the problem is i dont want the jars gettin any warmer, I just want the heat to be more even within the incubater, and for the jars to not be in contact with the heating element

Okay, I have put the material that originally came with my propogater ontop of the heating mat. That keeps it at about 90 soo ive put a thin t-shirt over it and the jars ontop of it and it keeps it just over 80 whicch is good but im a little concerned about the fire business. Whats your thoughts??
I just felt the material and it wasnt too hot... whats peoples opinion on this one??

well, if it has a lid, i seriously doubt it will start a fire but, i think that is the safest way. Others opinions might help you more

You want to lower the temps?  I thought you wanted to raise them...
