They are easy to grow but require manure and lots of fresh air
Pans without a PC
Make up a standard PF cake but with 1 change. Instead of 2:1:1 ratio make it using a 1:1:1:1 ratio using 1 part vermiculite 1 part dried manure 1 part BRF 1 part water. Use this guide to make up the cakes. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11585613/fpart/1. Pan's Mycelium is on the wispy side more faint then cubes so don't be alarmed thinking its cobweb
Here is a modified PF cake
And here it is colonized
After they are 100% colonized give them a dunk for 6 hours and rinse them off then make up some bulk using 60% Manure 30 Vermiculite and 10% gypsum. Mix them together and bring to field capacity then pasteurize them using this guide http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=11855283&page=0&vc=1#11855283
Now put the colonized cakes into a freezer bag and crumble then nice and small. Now your going to spawn the BRF mixture with your pasteurized bulk. use a tray that is around 2 inches deep. You want to keep the total depth of the mixture around 1 1/2 inch. Smaller trays I find work better. Spawn it by first laying down some manure mixture then BRF then manure and then BRF and then manure(I think you get the picture) Always end off with the manure mixture.
This is a picture of stuff needed for spawning
This picture is them after being spawned (there is straw it these ones But I dont use straw anymore)
Cover that and check it in 4-5 days that how long mine usually take to be 100% colonized. You want the surface to be 100% covered with mycelium. Remember that Pans Mycelium is alot fainter and wispy.
Covered trays
After there 100% colonized apply a casing layer(Pans need one) to make a casing mixture just combine 1 cup of Peat moss and 1 cup of Vermiculite and if you can buffer it with hydrated lime and bring it to a Ph of 7-8. Bring it to field capacity or just under and pasteurize using this method
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=11855283&page=0&vc=1#11855283
Apply the casing so its total depth is 1/4 inch. Make it as even as you can. now cover the casing for 12 hours and then put it in the FC.
For fruiting Temps around 70-75 are prime, they fruit in the same conditions as cubes but pans need alot for FAE then cubes. So fan as much as you can. Its alright to mist the casings and fan afterward, but as soon as you see pins STOP misting and just fan.
Here is a picture of them pinning
And maturing
.
Tips, The pins are very fragile if you notice any water on the caps fan more they will abort easily when to wet. Keep temps during the whole process are fine in the 70's Fan Fan Fan them
Pans I find are 4x more potent then cubes use with caution

Shea, how long do your manure cakes take to colonize?
I've tried different ratios, using cow manure pallets (that work great for Pan bulk substrates) and eventually the cakes do colonize. It just takes an awful long time for them to germinate. Once they've done it, it's only a little slower than with WBS or PF cakes.
Since there's visible parts of straw in the cakes, I assume you use dried horse manure, right?

Hi well written post
Is this the 1st time doing this without a PC? Any contamination issues?? the hmanure you used was shit found on the ground or shit bought from store?
I think I'll try inject some myc on unsterilized mix of hmanure, BRF and little brown rice..
