SKY blue markings on cakes, IS IT pysilcybin??? *have pics*
    #1216422 - 01/14/03 05:13 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Im using pf tek brf half pint jars with 3 different varieties. My problem is that im starting to get concerned for my cakes. They have been in the terrium for alittle over 2 weeks and are starting to been real good at this point. BUT theres one cake that has alot of sky blue mixed in with the mycelium. And theres 1 or 2 more with it showing at the top a very sky blue color. Should i start to worry about the safety of the cakes. COULD THIS BE PYSILCYBINE SHOWING THREW???? or do you think its something i have to take care of by cutting it off? HERE ARE MY PLEADING BABIES!!!! THEY JUST WANT YOUR HELP SO THEY CAN GROW WELL AT NIGHT knowing that nothing will attack them in there night time grow.

I cant tell from you picture, too blurry. Take a steril cloth and wipe the spot gently. If it wipes off it's mold, if not it's probobly bruising. If they're bruising and you have NOT been handeling them, they're thirsty.

The blue discoloration sounds like brusing but it is impossible to tell from your fuzzy pictures.

Is that perlite beneath the grate? How humid is your fruiting chamber?

Chances are it's either dehydration or bruising.

i would say its fine and is bruising. A easy test is to get a sharp knife, or razor, sterilize it, then very thinly slice off a peice of the blue, if its white directly under the blue, its a bruise, and is fine. Almost all my cakes ALWAYS bruised, thats why i do casings now. Its SOOOOOOOO EASY which pushes your cakes to the limit to get the most out of em.... its great.... everyone should do it, its easier then cakes, thats right, its easier then cakes! My friend had hut cakes in grow cham, took 20 days to pin, the same hut strain, diff cakes were put into a casing, pinned 9 days later...... bigger flush too with the same amount of substrate.

A little bluing is no big deal.... but I have to agree with Killer ............ Casings are not that hard.. take a few cakes and crumble them in marble sized pieces in a ziplock bag .Then place in a tupperware or tin container and cover with 50/50 vermiculite/peat moss Wet the peat/verm pretty wet and squueze till it runs out. I like to put a damp layer of verm on the bottom also....keeps the casing that much more hydrated for longer. Once you succeed at casings you will never go back. Definetely better yields from same amount of spawn
