Anyone a fan of Isopropyl Alcohol for Sterility??

Instead of Lysol, all I've been using is Isopropyl (99% concentration). I think, for our intents and purposes, it's far better than lysol. First off, it'll kill almost everything that Lysol does (except many virusest...but I haven't heard of too many casings getting the flu). It denatures bacteria and moulds on contact. Second, it leaves no residue like lysol does. After you spray it, it evaporates shortly thereafter. Third, it's cheap...I bought a 3 dollar bottle and it'll last me through several growing experiments. I've been using it on everything...the inside of my terrarium, the mixing bowls, the casing trays, and most importantly on my hands before, during and after birthing cakes. Just make sure the stuff has completely evaporated before it comes into contact with any mycelium, as I imagine it wouldn't be too good for it.

If you haven't used it I suggest giving it a try.

I use both, I'm not sure how effective spraying with Iso. is at knocking down air-borne contams.

Same here. I spry the air first with lysol, wait, then spray all surfaces and untensils/containers with iso. Haven't had any problems to date. :smile:

It's a more effective disinfectant when used as a 70% alcohol 30% water mixture apparently, rather than pure alcohol.
