Something to ponder
    #12157520 - 03/07/10 04:41 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Is it possible for a universe to be deliberately created by a form of intelligence, whether by a perfect God, and imperfect god, humans, or other?

If it is possible for a universe to be deliberately created, then is it possible that many, or infinitely many universes have been deliberately created?

If many universes have been deliberately created, then is it more likely that our universe is the result of one of these creations, or that it is unique and came into existence on its own?

Anything is possible but not likely, if you want to just speculate on your fun fantasies then I suggest the Mystery forum.

in buddhism there's infinite world systems (where this physical universe is a part of one world system but not the whole thing)

i think it makes sense that if there's one, there's probably no limit

Thank you again for your creative input, Icelander.

The properties of this universe are very fine tuned in a way that they support life. Is it reasonable to believe that the only universe ever in existence came into existence on its own and just happened to carry the right properties? Maybe, but I don't think so.

If the properties of this universe are such that they render it capable of generating another universe, humans will probably figure out how to do this. If we do, we'll undoubtedly generate a universe identical to this one, which will in turn generate a universe identical to itself, and et cetera resulting in an endless cycle of universe identical to this one.

So IF this is the case, there is an infinity to one chance that we are not the very first universe in this cycle, and that we were created by a previous universe. It all falls on that big IF though. As the subject states, this is just something to ponder, not something I'm trying to tell you is true. I don't necessarily believe it myself, but it's something I like to think about.

You are here because you were created by humans who were created by humans who were created by humans. We exist because we are capable of generating something very similar to ourselves which is in turn capable of generating something very similar to itself, etc. Because of this, it seems plausible that the universe is here for the same reason.

I meant as a species. Humans exist now because humans are capable of making other humans. You exist because your parents were capable of giving birth to another human, and you in turn are capable of aiding in the creation of another human.

I was just saying the the same concept might apply to our universe as well. Self replication works great for maintaining a species, so it would work great for maintaining a system of universes.

I wasn't aware that a universes were considered a species, let alone beings that can reproduce.

That's not what I'm saying. Humans exist now because we replicate and create others that are like us. Nature has already selected replication as a mechanism of maintaining the existence of life. It is often the case in nature that properties of a smaller scale apply to things on larger scales. Is the possibility that this universe is the result of another universe so unreasonable?

Reproduction only applies to organisms.

Rocks, for example, do not reproduce.

The universe is more complicated than an organism and a shit ton more complicated than a rock. So there's a reasonable chance that it would be more comparable to things on the complicated end of the spectrum.

When a rock breaks in half, it is reproduction.
