I would isolate clean cultures on agar then inoculate sterilised popcorn, once the popcorn is fully colonised I would use it to spawn to sterilised sawdust that has been supplemented with carbohydrates and protein in the form of a flour or meal, whole grain wheat flour works well. After the sawdust is fully colonised use it to spawn an outdoor wood chip bed and be prepared to wait for a whole season or two before it fruits! inski.

Ok, I just mentioned it because I've found that the wood loving species seem to grow better on popcorn than they do on WBS. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12130901 inski.

Nice, I find the popcorn works nicely as a spawn, the sawdust jars in my link were done in 11 days and the amount of inoculation points were more than sufficient at a ratio of one part popcorn spawn to five parts sawdust substrate!
For the popcorn I just soak it over night in hot water, drain and rinse in a sieve then simmer for one hour in fresh water. After the one hour is up I drain the water off in a sieve for about 20 minutes then load the jars and pressure cook for an hour and 20 minutes at 15psi, the moisture level is always perfect with this technique, maybe different sources of corn react differently. inski.

I found with my cyanofriscosa, BRF was very contam resistant just to get it started. It failed in Rye berries (sour smell) probably because it was a wild collect sample and needed some clean up. Also I would throw some on agar just in case.

If you isolate clean cultures on agar to begin with you should have no problems with contamination, I may try BRF as a supplement for sawdust in the future! I think he already has some agar cultures as mentioned above. inski.
