incubation temps
    #1214575 - 01/13/03 11:49 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

i have a little space heater that does wonders when im freezing my ass off.. if i keep it on it maintiains a pretty high temp in my room (cant say exactly, but 70-80s probly)..

would this be good when my myco-bags are incubating, or will it dry them out? i wont point it right at them or anything, i will just leave it on in my room all the time.

Get a thermometer so you can monitor, and don't put the heater too close to your mycobags. It sounds like it should be fine.

it will work, i kept a space heater in a unused closet, i put a baking pan on the floor, to prevent the heater from touching. the space heater was set to a lower temp, and i could use floor and ceiling, i used up top for casings. you can see the chord coming from the space heater. be sure to watch this setup up extrememly close for its not the smartest design as far as incubators go.

yeah those were pint jars, i was trying to get air moving so those puppies would colonize. im not sure it made much of a difference, i dont use pint jars or aluminum anymore.

hmm.. im guessing since the space heater will be across the room it wont hurt anything.. the reason i asked was, with the myco-bags, i was under the impression that the air filter thing is open at all times-- and with jars, they're completely airtight.

is it safer to put the heater closer to the bags, or was i correct in assuming that too much hot air will dry them out and affect colonization.

those space heaters clearly state keep all combustable material away at least 3 feet. the bags may just cook your substrate.

Hi, I am also new to the forum and was wondering if when your mycobags are colonizing should there be fanning or air circulation?
