The Things That Are Not There
    #1213331 - 01/13/03 02:57 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

I talk with the Things That Are Not There.

The Things That Are Not There are symbols, metaphors, constructions, tools for the excavation of consciousness. By talking with the Things That Are Not There, I make the maps of my mind and hear stories I would otherwise never hear. The Things That Are Not There show me the foundation stones of my heart and with them I soar to the heights where we view the constellations of Memory and Spirit. The Things That Are Not There are angels, demons, sprites and goblins; machine-elves, techno-avatars and aliens from the future; spirits of Nature, Emotion and Time.

By seeking out and talking with the Things That Are Not There, I become them. By talking with them they become me; use my tongue to speak and my hand to write. The Things That Are Not There are, in fact, very present. As present as the space between your fingers. The Things That Are Not There are HERE. Always.

(You complain of a lack of depth and richness in your life? Let me tell you then, of the Great Chief of the Things That Are Not There. Praise be to gGod, Lord of the Worlds! They say that prayer is talking to gGod and meditation is listening to Him. But where is He? Look within. ?Break open the stone and I am there? the Christos said. ?Split wood and I am there also.?)

Look within. This is as complete an explanation as can be given.

... is the forced removal/reversal of partially digested food from the stomach and esophagus. Sorry I got some on you, Sclorch. Get that out with soda water...

But lookit all the pretty colours!

I hear Bush practices gastromancy on himself...

"Hmm. Lessee. Chicken, a little corn. A selection of stringy fibres. Where did that come from? Huh. Well, looks like I'll attack Iraq today."

Look to your leaders; your future is displayed in their waste product.

I'm not so sure.
I heard of this one incident where Bert and Ernie simultaneously attacked their puppeteers. Fuckin' savages....

here's a question for you:

If the Things aren't There, then Where are They?

Exactly.

The problem is always one of who possesses who. In a given interaction, do I become a monster or does the monster become me? It's give and take really. Each party gains something. I gain a little knowledge and a nice break from consciousness, while "it" gains a little experience in concensus reality (ie. gets to pilot a body for a while, say what's on its mind with an actual voice, sees the sights, has a few laughs, etc.)

It's the same with a mushroom. Here is this ancient, immobile, diffuse plant intelligence entering into a symbiotic relationship with a condensed, mobile, active and intense consciousness (ie. human) ... and the feelings you feel while in this symbiosis are the joys and terrors and wonders of the mushroom consciousness as it inhabits human form for a few hours.

"Holy Shit from Which I Sprang! I'm so high I've got arms and legs! I can see! Amazing! I gotta do this again! These humans are so trippy!"

Yeah, so, like, stuff...

"Where" is the Shroomery? "Where" are you? We're all "here" but it is No Space. A virtual environment we share. And so, to extend the analogy, my personal "here" includes these spaces where gods, demons & assorted other constructs reside. And if you and I were to reach some sort of concensus regarding these things, then they would inhabit your "here" as well.

Not that that's gonna happen.

It's a way of seeing. I do not think outside of the box. As far as I am concerned, there is no box.

This environment is no more "virtual" than the cultural metropolises we've created.

My point is, if "They're" not "There," then They either don't exist or They exist elsewhere.
