Police and cell phones

Okay I wanted to relay something that happened to me awhile back that I thought was weird.
I was staying at a friend's house while he had a warrant out for his arrest. He warned me beforehand if the cops showed up that he was going to hide, and to just tell them he wasn't there.
So he's sleeping in his room and I'm on the couch watching TV, all of a sudden my cell phone rings. It's a weird number I didn't recognize, so I didn't answer it.
Like 10 minutes later there's loud knocking at the door. I open it up and it's this lady cop, and as I try to tell her my friend isn't there, she yells his name and says "I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE!" and basically just walks past me into the house. She finds my friend hiding in his room and arrests him.
So I call that number back after she leaves, and IT WAS HER. There's no way she could have known I was there, so I'm guessing somehow she was outside and picked up on my cell phone being in the house... Does anyone know how she could of done that???
Also, could I have refused her entry into my friend's house, even though it wasn't my house?

Always look through the peep hole before opening the door.
Never open the door for police. Announce to them that you recognize their presence, and that you are not going to open the door; that if they have a warrant, they may kick the door in, but otherwise you're simply going to go back to your business (imho your "business should involve immediately closing and locking as many points of entry into your house as possible).
Better luck next time.

What amazingly dumb advice. If they have a warrant, let them in. Unless you like paying to repair/replace your door.
Cops: We have a warrant. Dumb dude: I'm not opening the door. Kick it in if you want! Cops: *Break door down causing possibly hundreds in damages* Dumb dude: Ha! I sure showed you!
I mean really. Do you people even give a seconds thought to your answers?
Wow.

Just more damage you'll have to pay for.
I'm laughing my ass off at you.

Doesn't sound like the cop in OP had a warrant though?
Also, (not being from the US), if they HAVE a warrant, and find absolutely nothing, but had to break the door in (because you weren't there), who pays for that? Bearing in mind you're totally innocent...

uhhh Im gonna have to go with Humility on this one, if you have a warrent out for your arrest you have a lot more to worry about than an door being broken. Plus the cops usually will bullshit u every way they can to get you to open the door. So it is definitely best to not open the door...
Anyways that cell phone thing sounds really creepy, my Electrical engineering prof showed us how easy it is to pick up cell phone calls, so it wouldn't surprise me if they could pick up your number

I wasn't responding to the OP. I was responding to the wizard who said he'd tell the cops to kick the door in.
The only time I've heard of cops having to pay for damage is when the were at the wrong house.

Yeah I'm not worried about the opening the door thing, it happened awhile ago and he's already out of jail, so whatever.
What really interests me is how the cop picked up on my cell phone? I've never heard of anything like that happening, it really creeped me the hell out.

Seems like you often exhibit aggression and anger when responding in posts 'shrooms. That's unfortunate.
The reason I so strongly advocate never opening the door for police is because once the door is opened, you've let them in. If the police position themselves, or any parts of themselves (hands, feet, legs) between your door and its frame, you MAY NOT close the door from that point forward without "assaulting an officer".
Police often lie, and lying while on the job, even about making an arrest, or having a warrant is often not punished. Still more important, lies police tell OFTEN land otherwise innocent individuals into prison.
If the police officer wants to tell you he has a warrant, that doesn't necessarily mean he has a warrant. If the police have a warrant it's often the case that they'll simply crash through the door in the first place. The most effective way to ensure the police do not enter your home unwanted is to not open the door for them.

Correct, in many cases.
If they are outside and screaming that they have a warrant, its likely that they are telling the truth and it probably wouldn't hurt to open the door, step outside and close it behind you, so you can check the warrant.
If they are screaming and pounding, but they aren't saying anything about warrants, do not let them in under any circumstances.
A broken door costs a few hundred dollars to fix, but that is cheap compared to your newfound ability to prove that you did not let them in willingly. If you let them in, anything they find is fair game. If you didn't let them in, they have to prove that they had a good reason to go in.
So really its best to never let them in and let them break it if they are going that route. Its cheap insurance.
Sometimes they knock on your door for more innocent reasons, like letting you know that your car has an expired registration or something. That happened to me recently. They gave me a chance to move my roommates car to the driveway instead of getting it towed. Could have gone badly if someone was smoking weed in the front room.

they pretty much broke into my parents house in georgetown... the officer left a notecard and his business card explaining it, I should have taken a picture of it. Basically he said there was a 911 hangup call placed from the house when my parents were both at work, and he was compelled to search the house for people. I had left out a bubbler on the table but apparently he didnt see it or care.
Apparently phone lines can fuck up and call 911 by themselves, its pretty fucked up.

Obama signed an extention of the patriot act with no civil rights safeguards. The demos made a token effort to put an amendment in but quickly dropped it. They blamed it on the repubs like they would have fillibustered if there was an amendment. They made no effort to preserve our rights and obama has signed all such bills. They can do whatever they want now. "warrant, we don't need no stinkin' warrant"
The op's story sounds odd to say the least. 1 female cop busts in by herself when she knew there were 2 male drug suspects in the house and possibly others?

I wasn't a suspect, my friend just had a warrant out for him and had been hiding from the police for a week. She came to get him.
What's weird is how she could of picked up on my cell phone being inside the house.

That could be, i'm just saying i never heard of one cop all by himself going after a fugitive on drug charges. They send 2 or more cops, not one female cop by herself. Maybe the cop was his mom and had your number from his cell phone?
