Is this casing hopeless now? Please Read!
    #1214090 -

Hello,

I had an aquarium of allen mycelium go bad for reason I understand now, but I successfully rescued somepure white mycelium chunks from this aquarium, and cased it using the SOS tek. I put it away for 3 days, then now I have it in my aquarium (all cleaned out from the first attempt ofcourse) with perlite humidification, and the cup casing is sitting right on the perlite! It's been two days since it's been in there now, and I didn't see any growth on the casing layer! So I re-read the SOS tek, and realized I put too much casing layer on top of the mycelium/substrate layer. So I took of some of the casing layer until it was just enough to cover up the mycelium! I did that last night, and I'm keeping humidity around 90% and temps around 75-80.

Do you think the reason it hadn't started to colonize the casing layer is because I had the casing layer too thick?

Again though, it might not work just because the mycelium I used was from a contaminated aquarium casing! Very contaminated, had tons of green mold! But I figured if I all white chunks that the mycelium would flourish in a new casing (one that's less likely to contaminate). But maybe I was wrong, maybe it's too late for this one! I had two cup casings from this aquarium, and one already has gotten taken over by the green mold again!

I'm just trying to see some fruits from these babies, just one if anything!

Let me know what you all think!

Regards,
Gthirteens

Sorry, but rescuing mycelium from a contaminated casing is a hopeless undertake.

where 'undertake' is the appropriate word.

sorry, man, but like many others i've never brought one back from the dead. i tried with a wet spot one (bacillus, smells sour) and a green one (cladosporidium?) on some eating button mushrooms, and once with a cobwebbed one (dactylium), but failed each time. if anno says it's dead, then it probably is. :frown:

Cool, thanks for informing me of this. Next time I'll know not even to get my hopes up! I'll also never try a rescue attempt!

Oh well, atleast I got my 85% colonized creeper jars awaiting casing!

I over complicated things this last time with the allens, plus I wasn't reading up on the Shroomery enough, I took the Shroomery for granted! I also use this forum now, which is an excellent resource!

I'm going to follow the straight SOS casing tek with these creeper jars, because it seems low risk. Also I was thinking of devoting just one half pint jar to a spawning attempt too. I have a big supply of horse dung nearby cause a friends uncle owns like 20 horses. But anyways, I was gonna put one half pint jar of colonized BRF cake, with 3 half pint jars worth of horse poo. Ofcourse, I'm going to pausterize the poo first too.

I read on the shroomery FAQ that you can pauesterize stuff in the microwave. Is this true, it sounds to half-assed to me!

Thanks Again,
Gthirteens
