Will mycelium continue to develop under pinning conditions?
    #1212150 - 01/12/03 04:04 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

My casing has several visible patches of mycelium...covering approximately 20% of the entire casing surface. Under advice of some board members, I put it into a terrarium. It is now receiving light, humidity and CO2 exchange (ie: pinning conditions). Will the mycelium continue to develop and spread at a similar rate as it did immediately post-casing?

Thanks
Viking

Cover the mycellium patches with fresh sterile casing material and let it all colonize at the same time. This way you'll get a more even pinset.

The mycelium will still colonize but not nearly as much as when it was incubating.

so really it's best to incubate until top casing is totaly covered right? then put in terrarium for pinning?

The FAQ says you don't want the top layer of the casing to be completely colonized. I'm a bit confused here. I suspect the mycelial network is completely filled in under the layer of verm, but only certain areas have poked up. Will pins/mushrooms develop on areas where the mycelium is still covered by verm?

Like 75% is good. Too much and there is a high chance that you will get overlay.
