Oh you two, how cute.
Seriously though that's a gorgeous plant. I know you said it's seed grown, but is that particular part seed grown or is that a cutting of a once huge plant? It's just so fat

That is the blue one I sent you the pic of a few weeks back. I put it out in the sun,and it turned yellowish. Thanks for the compliment again

Thanks buddy
What happened was, last year,it got too etiolated indoors during the winter, and I detest ugly plants,so I cut off the top,and put it directly in dry soil without callousing it.
I made a post about it,and a lot of people gave me flak, because I root all my cacti, without callousing them first. Someone even said I should expect failure,or something along those lines.
Well,a month later,it rooted, and it has grow substantially since that time.
Someone else now has the bottom half, and I hope it's doing fine.
I kept it fat by not letting it go dormant this winter, and by putting it outside on the warm sunny days, which we had a lot of! Thank you Global Warming
Another thing I don't ever do,is let my cacti go dormant during the winter,I water them less, but i still continue to feed them, and give them ample sun

I couldn´t agree more. I keep mine totally dry Dec, Jan, Feb, and growth slows right down - but they are kept in cold frames where they get plenty of sun. Then last season´s growth will mature and harden.
In fact the only time that desert cacti go dormant in habitat is if the temperatures get excessively high - then the stomata will close up and photosynthesis stops temporarily.

Right on man,I'm glad someone finally agrees with me
I was never much on the whole dormant thing,so I never did it,nor did I understand why it was necessary, well,I mean i did understand to an extent, but yeah, thanks for explaining that

No - neither do cactus nurseries - whose livelihood depends on keeping their plants happy and healthy.

Funny, I was just learning about this species the other day, "queen of the night" apparently it's pretty rare in cultivation? Spectacular

Not really rare. They use it as grafting stock.

No, easy to find, and the plant is pretty nondescript - it is just the spectacular flowers that make it special - a once a year event.
