This is where I will be going, I've posted flowers from there in the flowers thread before, they are not as impressive as the scenery.

the base of the mountain is about a 2hr drive from Tucson then another hour up the mountain. There are a shitload of sharp curves and switchbacks, its kind of fun to drive up, but you are constantly on the brakes on the way down. Base of the mountain is 4000 elevation top is 10,000. I don't go all the way to the top because I don't like being around other people when I trip.

yes, my step-dad's father lived there so I've been quite a few times, my mom lives about 20 mins south of sonoita which is west of sierra vista, basically just a four way stop.

Top down view of a lilac hedge

Bonus: can anyone identify this lovely tree? I know what it is but not sure how common it is in your parts.

It's a lovely plant and flower, but it's either an Echinopsis or a Lobivia (far more interesting than Rebutia, if you ask me).

It is actually a dead ringer for a Echinopsis X Lobivia hybrid, pictured in one of my texts. With an Echinopsis habit of growth and flowers with long tubes and taking the bright orange colour from its Lobivia genes. (I am told - don´t grow either genus myself.)

I should of probably included that they are parasitic on Adenostoma fasciculatum (Chamise), you can see the old needles on the ground.
Its also the second year I have seen them at this exact location, the first time my old camera broke on the way up the trail...
