I'm in eastern Pennsylvania, USA. I think it's either zone 5a or 5b.
I got that Melissa officinalis in spring of 2014 from some garden center as a tiny tiny 2$ plant. I didnt give it any special care really and it didnt do much. Then this past spring it just went bonkers. I was using it with the mint for sun tea, but since it's flowered and gone to seed, the flavor seems to have changed. The bees love it. It's a neat plant, but I'm gonna have to cut it back next year so it doesn't take over entirely.

Nice! It should work here then too.
The flavor change makes sense though. A lot of herbs change flavor when going to seed, a lot of times they even get a bit bitter. I've noticed this personally in my basil plants that just won't stop trying to flower.

Yeah man, I'm not even fucking with my main basil plant at this point in the season. I've got a few younger ones I started from seed much more recently that I can use for culinary shit. Cilantro is pretty done in after a heat wave like the one we just had too. Most of mine is coriander by now anyway.

I love coming back to this thread. I neglected to clean up the space around our tiny pot garden this spring and weeds were growing around it. When I decided to finally do it there was this giant plant with giant bulbs on it that I was curious about. I wish I took pics of it bc it ended up blooming into these huge red flowers. Don't know what it was tho. I'll research and post if I do or if it blooms again. It got murdered by bugs tho too after awhile.

The pictures of your southern hemisphere daffodils makes me realize how late in the summer it is getting here in the north.

Yes, but all the plants that bloom only once a year and have already done so need winter to renew themselves. And what's more, Ariocarpus season is coming.

So here is a pic of it now and it looks really rough. I've been too busy for my garden this year and seriously all of a sudden the beetles, i guess, ate this plant to bits!!!

But I was researching it finally and it looks to be a mallow flower, related to both hollyhock and hibiscus.. SOoo pretty. I think I'll pluck those pods off and see if I can shake any seeds out. Apparently they have a beetle problem, which is why it's harder to grow unless you're constantly looking out for it. I'm still wondering how it came to grow in a corner where my potted plants were. These ones bloom burgundy and it looks like there's a giant one about to bloom soon, so when it does I'll post another pic.
