Yeah they root very easily.

Just cut and stick in the dirt is all I do with them.

Some info I found interesting:

Quote:

The absolute true Christmas cactus that Grandma grew is Schlumbergera x buckleyi. It has rounded leaf segments and tends to bloom in December. The cacti you see offered in the Big Box Stores around this time of year are sold as Christmas cactus but they are actually Schlumbergera x truncata, commonly called Thanksgiving cactus. It has "crab claw" type stem segments and tends to bloom about a month before buckleyi. Its all a marketing thing to sell only truncatas as Christmas cactus when the true Christmas cactus is never offered anymore. People don't want to wait until Christmas to buy, and the name Christmas cactus sells better than Thanksgiving cactus.

I actually have one of both and will take pictures for you all to see the difference sometime.

The x buckleyi I have is much smaller, but that's because it was a cutting given to me by a friend only a year ago.

The red one you have is Hatiora gaertneri, also known as the original Easter Cactus.

Sorry guys, I've been SUPER busy.

I've got finals and moving to do soon, so I'll be a bit quieter until early June.

I do have pictures however:

Frailea mammifera

Lophophora williamsii

Thanks all!

It took quite a beating when it was shipped and I was worried it had frozen, but it seems to be recovering very well and  looking beautiful as ever.

Just another testament to the vigor of the Cactaceae!

Those are lovely!

My cousin was on her honeymoon on your island and she had some pictures with the red Delonix regia.

Absolutely beautiful.

That way it can start spreading too!

It is said that you can trick the self-sterile mechanism with lily pollen.

This will allow for self-fertilization, supposedly.

Haven't tried it myself.

I tried cross pollinating the two, they look so similar I'm excited to see if anything ensues.

So am I!

I've got both my C. hypogaea getting ready to flower soon too, so hopefully I'll be able to get some seed!

Those will probably be first, then an Astrophytum coahuilense, after that you all will just have to see
