Hi there
I am planning on travelling to Europe this year, and wondering what are the best places to stay in? I will mostly be in Italy and Greece for a period of about 4 months in italy and 2 in greece, I have been looking at hostels, but they seem pretty expensive to have to stay in every night.. are there any cheaper alternatives apart from camping that I might find? I am willing to work in exchange for a place to stay or something like that. Has anyone done this that can give me some advice on places to go/places to stay/things to look out for?
peace.

Never been either in greece or in italy (apart from Millan airport). I have friends who did Inter-rails all around Europe and as far as i know it's quite easy to find places to stay in exchange for work/help all over europe. You just have to look for them when you come...
Maybe there is some online resource to find this kind of stuff?
If you have the chance, visit other countries also! In that area i think you should definitely visit France (the southern area has great beaches and lots of cool people), maybe Spain and Portugal. Austria is preety cool also. I guess all surrounding countries are worth visiting but these were the ones i have been to so i can't talk much about others...
If you like psychedelic music / drugs, i recommend you go to a trance party in greece. I was told by some nomad trance people (hippies that are always moving around in different countries going to trance parties everywhere) greek parties kick ass and are the best in Europe!
If what you want is to travel throughout Europe i would suggest you to get an Inter-rail pass which costs something like 300 - 500 euro. It allows you to travel by train for free or almost for free through all over Europe for 30 days. Check out www.interrail.com
Good Luck for your trip!
