    #12070569 - 02/21/10 11:50 AM (14 years, 4 days ago)

i have been worrying about spikes showing up on the some cakes, i found out it was ariel mycelium, but now some are bruising blue, i dont know if its from misting cause i mist 4 times daily with very fine mist in the air above the cakes, what could the bruising on the ariel mycelium be from? no pic sorry my cam cant zoom in that well to show a good pic of it

Misting would not cause that. i mist my cakes heavily directly 6+ times a day. Bruising is a sign of low humidity

the cake itself shows no sign of bruising at all its just the tips of the ariel mycelium

It just seems like the perlite is not humidifying the fc very well, any suggestions on how to up the humidity

Manual hygrometers can be calibrated, by wrapping a damp towel around it for half an hour. Calibrate it to 99% and you know what RH your FC provides.

Aerial rhizomorphs are quiet normal. Nothing to worry about normally.

Yeah i bought a analouge one that would not let me calibrate it but i bought another one that i have not tried to calibrate but i just put it in a warm damp towl in a baggie, but do i just use a knife to turn the back piece cause on the other one i did and it just sprang back to the same number

Normally: Yes!

But even if it can't be calibrated, you know that it should be at 99%. When it says 80%, you actually know it's 99%. The math that is required to know the actual RH shouldn't be too hard to do:smirk:

It's probably caused by the misting.
