Doing a liquid extract is something that I have always wanted to try. Unfortunately everclear is not sold in my state.

This is a page over at mycotopia discussing the extraction of the alkaloids from mushies. From the sounds of it vinegar & water may not be the way to go, as it looks as though somebody had some poor results. I think there is some debate as to whether or not water is beneficial in the extraction process, though I cannot say for certain. This also leads me to believe there may be some problems with the Vinegar & Water extraction.

Really it looks as though Methanol or ethanol may be a better way to go about the entire process, though Methanol is poisonous if I am not mistaken, so care must be taken to ensure complete evaporation of the Methanol. As for aquiring ethanol or methanol, I am not sure where one finds these prodcuts...

As I said, this is something that I am hoping to do this spring, but I need to do some more research first.

Hmmm, interesting. The acetic acid extraced more of the psilocin than the methanol, but less psilocybin. I may give this a shot. I wonder how well doing an extraction using methanol and then using acetic acid to extract more of the psilocin would work? I will probably give the aqueous acetic acid solution a shot, though I am unsure of how much the acid was diluted.  :confused:

I'm not sure if mixing them would be a problem or not. I'm not really a chem wiz, so I really can't say one way or the other. I wonder if the methanol just doesn't extract the psilocin as well, or if it destroys it maybe. I've got no clue.

Or maybe Heat it evaporates very quickly. I dunno maybe thats not i real good idea i duno if it would leave anything behind.
It's used in meth but meth isn't the the best stuff to be putting in your body anyway so whats a little heat.

But i think moonshine would be gr8t
